Admission Requirements for PhD in Management in Canada for International Students

A Master’s Degree

Each PhD aspirant must have a Master’s degree (some universities may specifically ask for an MBA or a master’s in management) to be considered a qualified applicant.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants must have a minimum score of 7.5 in their IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or a 100 iBT in their TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).


In the case of the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examination), the tests should have been taken within the last five years from the admission date. Some universities might allow students to pursue a PhD in management in Canada without GMAT too. For this, an aspirant must refer to the individual university’s website.

  • Ontario Graduate Scholarship is another scholarship funded partly by the Province of Ontario. Under it, international students are eligible for a set number of OGS awards. Doctoral students can receive a maximum of four years of OGS awards.
    One may receive up to $10,000 if they are already pursuing a doctoral program when it is awarded. If it is granted at the beginning of the first term of the doctoral program, the scholarship amounts up to $15,000 in Year 1 and up to $10,000 in year 2 & further.
