Validity of PLAB Scores

If a candidate has passed PLAB 1 but has not taken PLAB 2, they have 3 years from the date of passing PLAB 1 to take and pass PLAB 2. How to Work Abroad After Taking the PLAB

The process of working in other countries after taking the PLAB exam may vary depending on the country. In some countries, passing the PLAB exam may be enough to obtain a medical license, while in others, additional requirements may be necessary.

Working in the UK: After passing the PLAB exam, candidates must complete a two-year Foundation Programme, followed by speciality training. Once they have completed their training, they can apply for a license to practice medicine in the UK.

Working in Australia: Candidates who have passed the PLAB exam, have GMC registration and have been practicing medicine for more than a year in the UK may be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia, but they may also be required to complete additional requirements, such as the Australian Medical Council (AMC) examination or an approved internship.

Working in New Zealand: Candidates who have passed the PLAB exam, have GMC registration and have been practicing medicine for more than three years in the UK may be able to apply for medicine practice in New Zealand. However, if you’ve passed only the PLAB 1 exam and want to move to New Zealand, you can skip part 1 of the country’s qualifying exam and directly appear for part 2. Once you pass the second part, you have to practice for one year under clinical supervision, and you’ll be able to register as a practitioner in New Zealand.

Working in Canada: Candidates who have passed the PLAB exam, have GMC registration, have completed the General Practitioner training and have 3-5 years of relevant experience in the UK may be eligible for licensure through the Medical Council of Canada (MCC), but they may also be required to complete additional requirements, such as the MCC Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) or an approved residency program.

Working in UAE: Candidates who have passed the PLAB exam, have GMC registration and have been practicing medicine for more than a year or two in the UK may be eligible for practice in UAE.

Working in Saudi Arabia: Candidates who have passed the PLAB exam, have GMC registration and have been practicing medicine for more than a year or two in the UK may be eligible for practice in Saudi Arabia.
