History

Princeton University was established in 1746 as New Jersey College. In 1826 James Madison, Class of 1771 and former president of the United States, became the first president of the Alumni Association of the College of New Jersey. In 1896 it got its recognition, and the institute’s name officially changed to Princeton University. Soon it became a co-education system in the year 1969.

Princeton University: Requirements for admission 

Princeton University’s acceptance rate is 5.6%, making it challenging for international students. International students for various degrees and disciplines are granted admission based on academic excellence, experience, and soft skills. The admission panel of Princeton University focuses on the test scores of English language and other standardized entrance examination scores as discussed below: 

English language proficiency test

Students from non-native English-speaking countries or students who have not studied high school in English for at least 4 years need to take the test. The accepted English language proficiency tests are IELTS and TOEFL. Princeton University has not set any minimum score for the IELTS, however, each department may set its own. 

Students scoring less than 27 in TOEFL speaking sections need to take an English placement test at Princeton University. Admitted students who score below an 8.0 on the speaking subsection of the IELTS will be required. 

Standardized tests 

Princeton University generally requires an SAT score between 1450 and 1570 or an ACT score of 32 and 35 for undergraduate courses and programs. However, for the academic year of 2021-2022, due to lack of access to testing amid pandemic, Princeton University made SAT and ACT optional. 

GRE and GMAT examinations are compulsory for Princeton University. Still, it is optional for the Fall season 2022 to submit the scores except for a few courses like Civil Engineering, Economics, Politics, and Population Studies.
