The speaking cue card topic- Describe a business person you admire is not complicated at all; it is one of the common topics in IELTS, and you should practice it before preparing to sit for the examination. In this cue, you will have to be careful about structuring your thoughts logically, discussing a businessman you admire, and stating the reasons with proper flow. Here are sample that will help you practice.
It is not enough to be a businessman; one should have a futuristic vision and a desire to bring about positive societal or intrinsic change. That, in my opinion, is what makes a truly successful businessman or entrepreneur. To this end, I admire Bill Gates. He was once the richest man in the world, although that title has been taken by contenders like Jeff Bezos (Amazon founder) today. However, that has not taken away the sheer volume of his contributions across the Planet.
Everyone in the world has heard of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The organization has done excellent work in combating and lowering poverty, inequality, and diseases worldwide. They have contributed immensely toward social welfare in India as well. Bill Gates has pledged billions of dollars through his foundation toward social welfare. That is what evokes my admiration and respect for the legendary entrepreneur. Of course, his success story with Microsoft, the way he founded his company and brushed aside rejections, trials, and tribulations, is the mark of his legacy.
However, it is his sharp mind and vision that entices me; the way he speaks when he engages with an audience is mesmerizing. I strongly support his futuristic vision for the Earth and his understanding of what we must do to ensure sustainability and resources for future generations. I sometimes feel that Bill Gates would be the best person to be the President of the United States. The USA is the most powerful global nation today; someone like Gates at the helm would do a lot of good, especially regarding foreign policy. I wish to conclude by reiterating my admiration for Bill Gates and will keep drawing inspiration from his journey.

Some businessmen have built successful companies, created wealth, and generated employment and resources for the country. They deserve our plaudits for sure. However, some businessmen transform into icons for their humanitarian outlook, patriotic vision, and inspiring personalities, not because of immense business success or empires. Someone I enormously admire, Ratan Tata, the Chairman of the Tata Group, is a perfect example of the embodiment of all these qualities.
Ratan Tata evokes my admiration due to his strong sense of responsibility and empathetic outlook. In all the years he has been at the helm, the Tata Group has been perceived as one of the best employers in the nation. The Group has always prioritized employee welfare and ensuring stability and consistency in its business goals. It has put the nation first by channelizing its resources towards consistently maintaining its plethora of CSR activities and other charitable endeavors.
The Tata Group has also contributed immensely towards nation-building and national prestige, purchasing trophy assets like Jaguar Land Rover abroad or setting up Tata Steel in the UK. Ratan Tata’s innate desire to create a better life for the masses is admirable. This gave rise to his vision for the cheapest car in the country, the Tata Nano, which unfortunately did not take off. However, there is no denying the strength of his conviction in doing good for the people. At the same time, Ratan Tata is immensely humble, approachable, and lives a spartan life. His current role as a mentor to several young start-ups and some of the country’s brightest minds are also inspiring. I wish to follow his example- work hard, dream big and always carry everyone along with dignity and grace.
There are several legendary businessmen from the past. They include Andrew Carnegie, Sam Walton, Henry Ford, John D. Rockefeller, Dhirubhai Ambani, and many others.
