Nowadays the way many people interact: Sample Essay 1

Nowadays, the way many people interact with each other has changed because of technology. This is the assertion made in the question, which asks whether technology has affected relationships and interactions positively or negatively. I feel that technology has positively impacted our lives in this context.

The fast pace of life, professional and social commitments, and time and distance lags hinder communication. Technology has filled up these gaps, making it quicker and easier for us to communicate and maintain relationships. It has made interactions seamless and relationship-building easier. For example, suppose you have to meet a friend somewhere at a pre-arranged time. Would it be possible to fix that without a phone (call, SMS, or WhatsApp)? In earlier times, one would have to go all the way to the friend's house or where they worked/studied in advance to meet them and plan things for the next day. Technology has made it easier for us to update everyone about our lives and maintain relationships individually. You can video call to check on others even if you are not able to make it to that place physically by any means. Emails and other technological tools have also changed the face of work. Communication and productivity have got a massive boost, saving time, energy, and money in turn. Yes, you may argue that technology has eaten up a large chunk of our time and energy. Yet, it still remains the best way to communicate and stay on top of one's life without any hassles.

I wish to conclude by stating that the medium is the message as outlined by Marshall McLuhan. Similarly, civilization has evolved towards better communication and relationship-building models courtesy of technology. The positives outweigh the negatives since change is the only constant. Relationships matter, not how you build/maintain them, in my opinion.

Nowadays the way many people interact: Sample Essay 2

Question: The question asks whether technology positively/negatively impacts interactions amongst people and relationships today.

In my opinion, technological advancement deserves closer examination. While it has boosted communication in diverse spheres, it has also demolished a personal/human touch to the same.

On a positive note, technology has made it possible to communicate instantly with others via calls, video calls, messages, conferences, emails, and social media platforms. We can instantly brainstorm with colleagues, hold meetings, make up for our physical absence at official/family meets, and stay connected with just one touch. Modern society has distinctly benefited from the powers of technology, using them to integrate work, relationships, and commitments into an updated and evolving lifestyle module. This has naturally led to higher productivity, a global outlook (no longer limited by distance/location/time barriers), and excellent growth opportunities.

Yet, has it not demolished age-old communication structures? Those built on empathy, face-to-face interactions, and better interpersonal understanding? Technology has led to the decline in actual interactions, leading to the purpose-based and generic categorization of relationships. This is why most relationships, be they in the professional or personal spheres, do not scratch beneath the surface or evolve towards a greater understanding of emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Gone are the days of pure idea exchange and brainstorming amongst peers, family, friends, and acquaintances without merely staring at a screen or hitting Reply. That, in my opinion, is the inevitable fall-out of technological progress today.

I wish to conclude by referencing Newton's indomitable third law- "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." Technology, to me, is a mixed bag of positives and negatives as a result. Society has to use it smartly without deviating from its core values.

Frequently Asked Questions

In what ways has technology affected the types of relationships?

Technology has completely revolutionized how we communicate and build/maintain relationships. There are both negative and positive aspects of technology on relationships.

Technology has made communication easier despite physical distance, time, and geographical barriers. While this has made it easier for us to build and maintain bonds, it has taken away the warmth and comfort of face-to-face interactions.

How does technology negatively affect relationships?

Several reports show how technology leads to spending lesser time together in all relationships, including those with spouses/partners, children, parents, siblings, other family members, colleagues, friends, and even acquaintances.

Quick interactions and an increasingly digital world have robbed relationships of empathy, authentic connections, and better understanding.
