Humboldt Research Fellowship

Nationality:

• Not a German national.
• German nationals can apply if they lived and worked abroad for more than ten years and intend to continue doing so.
• If lived abroad for more than five years, can apply with strong ties to the current country of residence.

Stay in Germany:

• Must not have lived in Germany for longer than six months within the 18 months before application submission.
• Apply as soon as possible if recently arrived in Germany.

Confirmation of Research Facilities:

• A mentoring agreement and written confirmation of available research facilities from a German academic institution.
• A detailed review compiled by the host researcher.

Expert Reviews:

Two expert reviews are required.

• Postdocs: Reviews from doctoral supervisor and one other external researcher.
• Experienced Researchers: Reviews from important collaborative partners and/or researchers at own and other institutes, preferably outside the country of origin.

Language Skills:

• Natural Sciences and Engineering: Good knowledge of German or English.
• Humanities, Social Sciences, and Medicine: Good knowledge of German if necessary for research; otherwise, good knowledge of English suffices.
