The International English Language Testing System is one of the most widely accepted language proficiency exams that test the English language proficiency of individuals wishing to pursue higher education or seek relevant job opportunities abroad. In India, IELTS is conducted in more than 50 test centers across India by IDP Education. The aspirants can retake the exam as many times as they want until they get the desired score. If they wish to reschedule or cancel their exam, they can do so by contacting the test center.
To book the IELTS exam, the candidates can either visit their nearest test center or book the slot online by visiting the official website of IDP. If they choose to go with the second option, they should follow the steps given below.
After completing these steps, candidates will receive a list of available dates from which they can choose their preferred date and time. Fill up the relevant details and finish the application online. They must also upload their scanned passport copy (in color). Pay the registration fee ( via debit/credit card, net banking).
Upon booking the date, candidates receive the official acknowledgment on their registered phone number or email ID. They can book the Speaking test slot online at their convenient time and date (only for paper-based IELTS examinations). If they fail to do so within the given duration, they will be automatically assigned a slot.

Although it is advisable to book the IELTS exam as early as possible, you can book it as per your own convenience, depending on your preparation for the exam. As per IELTS official website, candidates can book the test dates as early as three months and as late as one week before the preferred test date.
Yes, you can change the slot you have booked for your IELTS exam. However, you can reschedule your IELTS test slot only if the test date is at least 15 days from the date you are applying for the slot change.
