The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a standardized English language proficiency test for non-native speakers. Educational institutions and employers accept it globally to assess the English language skills of students and employees. IELTS test takers receive a TRF after participating in the exam. So, what is TRF in IELTS?
TRF means Test Report Form. It is the copy of a candidate’s IELTS result and is, in a way, a mark sheet. A TRF carries the IELTS bands scored in the reading, writing, speaking, and listening sections of the test. It is valid for two years and is shared with educational institutions and employers in English-speaking countries to check the English skills of candidates.
The IELTS exam is conducted both online and offline. Candidates who have appeared for the IELTS test on paper get their TRFs on the 13th day after the test. However, computer-based test candidates get their TRFs in three to five days from the test. Students can collect the TRF from IDP IELTS offices after producing the identity proof they used for registration.
Test-takers generally receive one copy of TRF and can avail two copies for Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) or the United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA). They can also verify their TRF by using the online verification service of the IELTS. They will require a Test Report Form (TRF) Number.
So, what is the TRF number in IELTS, and how to find it? It is a 15–18 digit number mentioned in the bottom right-hand corner of the TRF page.
It is indispensable to keep TRF in a secure manner as it is a very important document. The institution can view the IELTS report form of the candidates by accessing the IELTS report form verification service. They will need the IELTS test report form number of the candidates that is available in the bottom right corner of the form. Moreover, students should be cognizant of the fact that IELTS reference numbers and test report form numbers are not similar.
The picture below is an IELTS TRF sample. It encapsulates the following details:
As part of the assessment processes all IELTS reports are verified with the aid of the online IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) Verification site. Access to this site has enabled organizations/ institutes to ensure that they receive bona fide IELTS results. Moreover, only IELTS Recognising Organizations are eligible to access IELTS TRF verification service.
The first five electronic Additional Test Report Forms (ATRF) are processed free of charge and can be requested within a month from the test date. Candidates will be charged an administration fee of Rs 250 for any additional TRF reporting per college/university after the first five. The TRFs can be sent to educational institutions mentioned in the application via e-mail, regular postage, courier services, or overseas postage. You might have to bear additional charges for courier services and overseas postage.
IDP has stopped accepting in-person applications for additional TRF from February 1, 2020. Candidates can now submit their additional TRF requests directly on the official IDP website. They can request to send the additional TRF to any recognized organization within two years of appearing for the IELTS test. The requested TRFs are directly sent to the organization.
Additional TRF applications cannot be canceled after applying, and IDP takes around 5-10 working days to process an additional TRF request. The duration doesn’t include weekends, holidays, and the day the application was submitted.
Trest takers can apply for five TRF postings to colleges/universities within one month of the test date. Submission of the TRFs to recognized organizations is managed by the organizers of the IELTS examination. They are shared with educational institutions mentioned in the application via e-mail, regular postage, courier, or overseas postage. Candidates can apply for electronic score reporting to a maximum of five universities in a day. Students applying for more than five TRF reports will have to pay an extra fee of Rs 250 per institute.
However, international educational institutions or employers subscribed to IELTS do not require original copies of TRFs. They can access TRF online.
You too can access the TRF online via your registration account, but you need to know what the TRF number in IELTS is and where to find it. It is the 15–18 digit number mentioned in the bottom right-hand corner of the TRF document.
Candidates who have appeared for the paper-based IELTS exam receive the TRF with their IELTS score on the 13th day after the exam. On the other hand, candidates for the computer-based test get their IELTS score three to five days after the exam. They can track their IELTS TRF online, through SMS, post, or by visiting a center after the results are declared. They need to produce the identity proof used during registration to get the scores from the test center.
To conclude, the TRF or the copy of your IELTS results is posted to colleges/universities mentioned on your IELTS application form. While regular postage is free, you may have to pay additional charges for courier services or overseas postage. You can ask for additional TRFs apart from the first five reports. You may have to pay an additional administration fee for additional TRFs. However, international educational institutions or employers subscribed to IELTS do not require original copies of TRFs. They can access your TRF online. To learn more about what is TRF in IELTS or the TRF number in the IELTS exam process, get in touch with an upGrad Abroad counselor today.
