UTS is situated in Sydney's technology area, a few kilometers from the CBD and some of Australia's most cutting-edge businesses and startps. In Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, UTS is a public research institution, especially since its supposed roots date to the 1830s.The School established the Workingman's College in the 1870s, and the NSW government later took control of it to establish the Sydney Technical College in 1882. In 1985, the Haymarket campus was formally inaugurated as UTS after the New South Wales Institute of Technology was founded in 1964 as a result of an Act passed by the NSW Parliament in 1940 to establish an institute of technology (NSWIT). The NSW Institute of Technology and the NSW Institute of Business Studies merged in 1968. The first law school outside of a university was founded by NSWIT in 1976 just before the official inauguration in 1985. The institution is considered one of the young promising (less than 50 years old) universities in the world, according to the 2021 QS World University Rankings Universities, it is ranked#1 in Australia and #11 overall. The campus is divided into five separate precincts. The city campus is home to Broadway, Haymarket, and Blackfriars, while Moore Park and Botany precincts combine specialized facilities with nearby business organizations. In addition, the UTS city campus is near Central Station and Railway Square and lies on the southern edge of Sydney's central business district.
