The BMus program in music therapy prepares students for a career in health care, community-based and special education settings. Music therapy majors learn to use carefully planned music interventions to achieve desired changes in a client's individualized behavior and functioning.

Music therapy is a profession in which engagement and receptive or active music-making help a client achieve individual therapeutic goals. Music therapy students develop a wide range of musical, verbal and nonverbal skills through the programs' many opportunities to work in clinical settings. Students also study:

The Health Science Pre-Professional (HSPP) program is changing its name to Biomedical Health Sciences (BMHS) effective Fall 2021 in recognition of the STEM and biomedical focus of this major.  Newly admitted students for Fall 2021 to Health Sciences Pre-Professional (HSPP) may continue in HSPP or change to BMHS when they matriculate. The Health Science Pre-Professional (HSPP) programs are designed to prepare students for entry into professional schools in a wide arena of health-related professions. Building a solid foundation in the Sciences and Humanities prepares our undergraduates for the challenges of pursuing a career in the diverse and ever-changing healthcare industry. Due to the thoughtful design of our curriculum, students take similar coursework the first two years of enrollment, allowing the flexibility of switching from one HSPP program to another. The most outstanding feature of HSPP is that the course requirements for entry into professional school are incorporated into the plans of study, resulting in no extra coursework for our undergraduates.

This pre-professional program is designed to prepare you for graduate or professional school in the healthcare fields of athletic training, exercise physiology, physical therapy, nutrition science/dietetics, occupational therapy, chiropractic, and cardiac rehabilitation. Washburn’s program is designed to exceed national standards for preparation in order to set you up for success in this rapidly growing profession.

The Recreation Therapy curriculum will train students to be client-focused while learning to help persons with physical, cognitive and psychological disabilities set and achieve goals in their personal development. Patients accomplish this through many techniques such as creative play, adaptive sports, the use of animals, art, music, exercise, aquatics and interacting with others in social settings. In addition to the recreation therapy courses, you will receive a background in psychology, human movement and human service fields where you will learn to assess and evaluate clients and create treatment plans. These skills can be valuable in a variety of social service fields in addition to recreation therapy.

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant will prepare you to work as an OTA in many settings and will serve as an excellent base for graduate study in a healthcare field such as Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy.

Students studying recreational therapy learn the skills needed to work with people in allied health-care settings such as hospitals, psychiatric clinics, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation clinics, substance abuse centers, and similar settings. You might work with returning injured service-members, seniors, children, adolescents, and individuals from all walks of life. The BS degree in recreational therapy at ECU has a strong clinical focus, which means that graduates will work side-by-side with physicians, occupational and physical therapists, nurses, and other members of an individual's treatment team wherever they work. The goal is always to help the patient/client achieve the highest level of functioning possible so as to experience life to the fullest. ECU recreational therapy students learn in the classroom, through practicum experiences, and they spend 15 weeks in a full-time internship where they learn to work with a variety of clientele in various settings. Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the national certification exam and become credentialed to work in the field. In North Carolina, both national certification and state licensure are required to practice recreational therapy.

Rehabilitation and human services is an interdisciplinary major that draws from psychology, sociology, social work, nursing and other fields. In addition to core courses and classes in rehabilitation, research methodology and psychology, you'll choose a concentration in:

Occupational therapy is a client-centered profession that promotes health and well-being of clients through personally meaningful occupations.  Students learn the physical, psychological and cognitive foundations of human performance, and gain the skills to help people who have limitations caused by illness, injury, developmental delays or normal aging.

Georgian Court University’s pre-physical therapy program—a track within the exercise science, wellness, and sports major—can help you get moving toward an exciting career in health and fitness. You will learn to evaluate health behaviors and risk factors, motivate others to develop healthy lifestyles, and develop wellness programs.

The B.S. in Exercise Science, Wellness, and Sports and its pre-physical therapy track prepares you to improve lives and help others make the most of their health. In addition to exercise science requirements, you will explore psychology and psychopathology and take advantage of research opportunities.

You can also take additional classes to prepare for graduate school. Georgian Court is a partner with University of the Sciences in Philadelphia for its Doctoral in Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) program. The partnership offers two slots each year to GCU students who qualify for the highly competitive doctoral program.

The strong science-based curriculum includes advanced study in exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, and research methodology. Many of the classes in the major combine theory with laboratory practice so that students get a chance to practice and master their professional skills. For their senior capstone experience, students may elect to do an internship or a research project. The internship experience allows students to further hone their skills in a practical environment while the research project allows students to put to practice their field and laboratory testing knowledge. Both opportunities give the students a chance to further develop and showcase their talents.

The Exercise Science bachelor’s degree focuses on the science of human movement and its importance in maintaining or improving health, physical fitness and athletic performance.  Coursework and selected emphases allow students to focus their studies on specific interests relative to career and graduate school pursuits.

Performing and visual arts come together with psychology to create this unique degree program, which includes hands on classroom instruction utilizing an integrated arts approach philosophy by incorporating the use of visual arts, dance and movement, music and sound, theater, and creative writing.

Over the course of study, each student is encouraged to discover his or her own treasury of personal creative resources, and share therapeutic properties with others through three internship experiences. Students are encouraged to participate in the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA) as well as the bi-annual Endicott College Expressive Therapies Symposium.

Occupational Therapists assist individuals in best engaging in their daily lives both personally and on the job. Duties of an occupational therapist include assisting those who are ill, injured or disabled to recover, develop, improve and maintain necessary skills.

Students whose future plans include applying to a professional school in Occupational Therapy may take the Bachelor of Arts in Biology Major. Many graduate training programs in Occupational Therapy are currently transitioning from Master (MOT) to Doctorate (OTD). Admissions criteria will differ. Lourdes students are encouraged to work with their undergraduate advisor after identifing the specific requirements for the graduate programs to which they are interested in applying.

As a student in exercise physiology, you’ll study how exercise alters the structure and function of the human body. You’ll receive a solid foundation in the basic and applied sciences and delve into physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, and allied health.

Practical, hands-on experience is woven into our program. Our professors and network of alumni will open doors to incredible opportunities in the field. Our students not only work directly with the coaches and athletes in ONU’s athletic department, but also land internships at places like the University of Oregon, the Cleveland Clinic, Akron General Hospital and the Ohio State University Department of Athletics.

The Community Health Program at the University of Illinois prepares students in the ever changing world of health care and health behavior as practitioners and offers three concentrations at the undergraduate level: Health Education & Promotion, Health Planning & Administration, and Rehabilitation Studies. All curricula are built on a foundation of general education courses which emphasize communication skills and critical thinking. The Professional Core courses are designed to help students develop skills in planning, implementation, and evaluation in the context of health services and programs. Students must complete an internship during their senior year in a setting related to the degree and their interests. Recent internship sites have included the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, hospitals, nursing homes, fitness centers, work site health education programs, and substance abuse prevention centers.

Students enrolled in the Pre-Occupational Therapy Track must complete the coursework listed under curriculum requirements to earn the BSHS degree through the School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS).  Students should meet with an academic advisor in the Office of Student Services (OSS) to discuss any questions related to their degree requirements.
