The University of Toledo is a student centric, public metropolitan research institution which is situated in Toledo, Ohio. It is the northernmost nationally recognised campus of the University System of Ohio. One of the USPs of this university is that it is specialised for research in the unique areas of water quality and sustainable technology, solar energy, cell architecture and dynamics and astronomy and astrophysics. Accreditation, Number of Students and Faculties

The Higher Learning Commission (HCL) accredits the University of Toledo. HCL is an institutional accrediting agency which has been recognised by the Department of Education of the US. There are several other accrediting organisations which approve the educational programs of the university or with which the university holds membership. The total undergraduate enrollment of the university was 13,161 as of Fall 2021, with a gender distribution of 52% female students and 48% male students. The student to faculty ratio of this university is 20:1. It has a total number of 2232 academic staff and 49.6% of the classes have fewer than 20 students. 

University Campus, Facilities, Labs and Courses

The University of Toledo offers an in-person tour around its campus. If a student cannot make it to the campus, there is an option of a virtual tour on the official website of the university. There are a number of computer labs and a few special purpose hardware and software. These facilities are accessible to all faculty members and students in the college of engineering. Some of the laboratories and facilities of the university include cold storage, microscopy, imaging, spectrophotometry, molecular biology, quantification of radiolabeled molecules, centrifugation, cell biology and cell culture facilities. 

Streams, Number of Courses and Other Offerings

Students applying to the University of Toledo have the option to choose from more than 230 certificate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree courses. Some of the popular degree courses offered by the university are Arts and Letters, Education, Law, Medicine and Science, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Business and Innovation, Health and Human Services and University College. There are many subjects within each of these courses and there are also many special offerings of the college. The acceptance rate of this university was 97% as of Fall 2021.

The admissions at the University of Toledo is very less selective with an acceptance rate of 97% as of Fall 2021. Previously, the acceptance rate of the university was 94.7% in 2020. 

Admission Eligibility Criteria

Freshman admission

  • The student must secure a minimum ACT composite score of 15 or  a total SAT score of 830-870 with at least 2.5 GPA
  • Or, the student must  minimum ACT composite score of 16 or  a total SAT score of 880-910 with at least 2.0 GPA
  • For test-optional admission, the student must secure a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Graduate admission

  • The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university or college. 
  • The student must achieve at least an undergraduate grade point average of 2.70 and some specific programs may require a higher GPA than the standard. 
  • Students with a lower GPA than 3.5 and international students are required to submit their GRE test scores. 
  • International students require a proof of English Language proficiency such as TOEFL, Duolingo or IELTS.
