Justice Studies is an interdisciplinary major that uses justice as a framework to sustain and promote the growth and development of individuals and communities: politically, economically and socially. Our students develop a personal definition of justice and a fuller understanding of the nature of the world in which they live. Students select an emphasis in Criminal Justice and Criminology, Global Justice and Policy, and Social Justice Engagement. Justice Studies offers students a set of skills, knowledge and habits of mind that can be applied to a wide range of academic, civic and career opportunities.

Legal studies is an undergraduate major in the College of Letters & Science. The program's mission is to provide a liberal education across traditional disciplines, focusing on the theory and operation of law and legal institutions. The courses in the legal studies major expose students to the many facets of law as a social phenomenon—its evolution, function, motivating ideas and effects. The major is not intended as preparation for law school because the emphasis is on exploring broadly defined questions about law from a variety of perspectives, rather than on training for the profession. The legal studies major is, however, suitable for pre-law students.

The curriculum is designed around the following five themes: Legal Institutions, Processes of Legal Order and Disorder, Law and Social Forces, Law and Culture, and Law and Theory.

The LL.M. in Global Legal Studies is for prospective students with a foreign law degree. This program, in addition to offering the usual career paths, also will prepare you to work with or across from U.S. counsel in a variety of transactions or disputes.

The program allows students to build a course of study uniquely tailored to their interests and goals by pursuing a general track of study. Additionally, the program offers specialization in oil and gas law; corporate and commercial law; public law; and in legal analysis, writing and advocacy. You will work with the faculty program director to select courses consistent with your individual interests and objectives. You will take classes alongside students enrolled in the J.D. program and develop lasting relationships with future American lawyers. LL.M. students must earn a minimum of 24 credits in order to graduate. At least 12 credit hours will be comprised of electives.

Terrorism, new technologies, and increasingly sophisticated international crime organizations have led to dramatic changes in Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Leadership. Some of these changes include:

• The formation of the multi-agency U.S. Department of Homeland Security
• The creation of new partnerships between public and private organizations
• The need to create and implement innovative strategies and tactics to deal with new and traditional criminal enterprises, including intelligence-driven policing models

The criminal justice- rehabilitative services program includes courses in criminal investigation, police work, corrections, juvenile justice, police operations, crime scene analysis, criminal profiling and law which prepare our students for a variety of careers.

Northeastern Illinois University’s Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Justice Studies program gives students the opportunity to examine the social and historical roots of justice, crime, and the law. Students seek to discover how these roots have shaped public policies, including those of the criminal justice system, and study systematic explanations for the failure—or triumph—of justice in society and explore the potential for transformative justice.

Through critical inquiry, social science investigation, and experiential learning, Justice Studies students develop an understanding of social and economic justice issues and critical criminology. For instance, criminology examines the structural roots of crime and takes up the legal and social concerns of diverse, urban, low-income, and disenfranchised communities, whose members are often heavily targeted by the criminal justice system.

For those wanting to continue their education in an academic, non-legal setting, one should consider the Law & Society Option B.A. degree in Legal Studies. This is a richly interdisciplinary major that enables interested students to study law and legal culture from many disciplinary, conceptual, historical, theoretical and empirical perspectives. Along with completing the regular sequence of legal specialty courses, students will earn credits in several interdisciplinary courses that demonstrate the convergence of the law in all aspects of society.

The Law Enforcement and Justice Administration degree program is designed to provide professional knowledge, understanding, and skills for criminal justice, loss prevention, and fire personnel and, at the same time, develop an educational base for further development into staff and administrative positions in criminal justice, public safety, and private security agencies. The program allows the student ample flexibility for liberal and professional education to meet the anticipated needs of the criminal justice and fire networks. Most majors in the program participate in an internship for one academic semester to gain firsthand acquaintance with criminal justice agencies or organizations at the federal, state, county, or local level. Graduates find employment in city, county, state, and federal agencies, in private security, in fire service, and in adult and juvenile court services.

Working to expand your knowledge of the total criminal justice process, including both crime prevention and legal intervention systems, you will be prepared for new leadership opportunities within your career.

The Masters of Science in Justice Studies is an interdisciplinary partnership between multiple departments, schools, and colleges at Missouri Southern State University designed to allow students, from all disciplinary backgrounds, the opportunity to explore and gain a deeper understanding of the multiple facets of what we call “Justice.” Students in this program will synthesize advanced scholarly knowledge from diverse yet interrelated fields, critique historical and theoretical concepts related to the understanding and application of justice, and master disciplinary and interdisciplinary skills essential to both scholarly and professional settings.   

The mission of the Criminal Justice program is to capitalize on the diversity of the Clayton State student population and multidisciplinary training of faculty to provide students with a specialized understanding of the criminal justice system and criminal behavior. Curriculum and instruction are designed to advance knowledge, understanding, and skills relevant to the criminal justice discipline in order to prepare students for careers, advancement, or graduate studies in criminal justice, law, and other justice-related fields.

Thomas University’s bachelor degree in Justice Administration is designed for individuals interested in administrative positions within the criminal justice industry. The program blends coursework in both criminal justice and business to provide graduates with skills in leadership, operational readiness and business acumen.

This program is offered at our main campus and also entirely online.

Individuals currently working in corrections or law enforcement will be awarded credit toward their degree for their law enforcement or corrections training.

Utah Tech’s criminal justice major is an interdisciplinary program that combines the study of criminal law, law enforcement, and criminology, providing a firm foundation for a myriad of careers. This course of study exposes students to the interconnected nature of the criminal justice system and explores criminological explanations for crime commission. Graduates from this program are prepared to enter applied positions in the criminal justice system or pursue graduate degrees in law, criminology, sociology, forensics psychology, etc. The associate’s degree in criminal justice as Utah Tech prepares students to continue their education in other criminal justice programs at various USHE institutions or at Utah Tech. This program emphasizes criminal law, criminal investigation, and the functioning of the criminal justice system.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers a B.A. in Criminal Justice that is developed from the social and behavioral sciences. The study of criminal justice combines the traditional aspects of the criminal justice system, such as law enforcement, courts and the judiciary, corrections, and juvenile justice with an understanding of social deviance as a whole. It also recognizes the interdependence of historical social traditions, values, politics, economic, and legal structures that impact policy questions in a democratic society.

The Bachelor in Arts of Criminal Justice at Governors State University will prepare students with the professional education, analytical background, and communication skills currently demanded in law and justice-related positions in policing, community and institutional corrections, juvenile facilities, social service and community outreach, conflict mediation, and non-profit enterprises among others.  This is accomplished through a curriculum specifically developed for students wishing to cultivate a broad perspective which includes the examination of the intersection of the traditional criminal justice model with social, restorative, and community-based models of justice.

The requirements of this degree include completing courses covering 1) Traditional criminological and restorative theoretical perspectives important to understanding crime, deviance, and the shaping of public policy; 2) Social justice approaches to crime prevention and community-based problems; 3) Ethics, diversity, professionalism; and 4) Research design and inquiry to strengthen analytical skills. 

Completion of this major prepares one to assume the responsibilities of the following professions: Police officer (municipal and state), special agent (in federal law enforcement agencies), criminal investigator (in state prosecutor offices), court administrator (state and federal), probation officer (state and federal), parole officer (state), correctional officer (state and federal), juvenile counselor, victim advocate (government or community), and others. Continued study may include a master’s and/or doctoral degree in criminal justice or public administration or a doctoral degree in law

Our administration of justice program is an upper-division undergraduate course of interdisciplinary study in the liberal arts and sciences that leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree. The goal of this baccalaureate program is to develop an understanding of the evolution, theory, structure, functioning, and processes of change in the total system of criminal justice in our society. Administration of justice majors develop competence in one of four specialized areas:
