Preveterinary medicine is not really a major, but rather is a collection of prerequisites for admission to Purdue’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Students may enter the College of Agriculture in this category, but later must pick a major to pursue. Students pursuing a wide variety of curricula may apply and be admitted to a veterinary college.

The preveterinary medicine curriculum includes courses that are required for admission to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program offered by the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine. This program of study, coordinated by the College of Agriculture Office of Academic Programs, emphasizes the biological and physical sciences that are foundations for successful study of veterinary medicine. Also, the curriculum includes courses in communication and the social sciences

The neuropsychology program will give you new insights into how the brain thinks, reasons, formulates and processes.

You will prepare to work in neuropsychology and clinical psychology, where neuropsychological assessments are an important part of clinical work. With the behavioral neuroscience degree, you will gain knowledge of the biological and physiological mechanisms that drive the nervous system and better understand the relationship between the brain and behavior.

The Behavioral Neuroscience major is an interdisciplinary program that builds on the strengths of Carlow University’s biology, psychology and chemistry programs.

Exercise and movement science (EMS) is a named option offered in the Department of Kinesiology. The department's mission is to research, teach, and apply knowledge related to movement, exercise, and human occupation with the ultimate goal of enhancing human health, productivity, and quality of life.

Students in this major take coursework grounded in the basic sciences (e.g., physiology, anatomy, physics) and in kinesiology. EMS core courses examine how the body responds to physical activity, the role of physiology and psychological factors in exercise, mechanics driving movement, how movement is controlled, learned, and developed over the lifespan, and the role of physical activity in the health of larger populations.

The curriculum includes coursework, laboratory research opportunities, and hands-on learning experiences. In addition, at least 11 credits of electives in exercise and movement science are required, giving students some flexibility to tailor the program to their specific interests. Examples of elective topics include strength and conditioning, leadership, health theory, and advanced courses in exercise physiology, psychology and biomechanics.

The EMS science major is a pre-professional program. This means that our students are well prepared for subsequent graduate or professional training in different health-related disciplines such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, or biomedical research. The major also prepares students for graduate training programs in kinesiology (e.g., exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, biomechanics, physical activity epidemiology, exercise psychology, motor learning). Exercise and movement science graduates may also pursue entry-level careers in the fitness area.

The 60-credit Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling serves both students looking to become licensed as mental health counselors and those seeking to eventually proceed into doctoral programs. The curriculum covers mental health counseling practice and research, in addition to necessary coursework in human growth and development, social and cultural foundations, helping relationships, group work, career and lifestyle development, appraisal, research and program development, and professional orientation. Practicum and internship experiences provide unique, varied, and intense hands-on mental health counseling training experiences under the supervision of licensed professionals.

The Clinical Laboratory Science program represents a revision of the Medical Technology program. The name change more appropriately describes the discipline and represents a nationwide trend. The program provides students with a solid foundation in management, computer, and problem solving skills, as well as a strong science background. The program is a good foundation for students wanting to pursue graduate work in forensic science.
 

The medical imaging technologist in radiologic sciences is a skilled radiographer qualified to provide diagnostic imaging services in advanced modalities such as vascular and intervention procedures. Students will choose from imaging modality tracks including computed tomography, ultrasonography (both grey scale and vascular), echocardiography, Picture Archiving and Communication (PACS) and magnetic resonance imaging. These areas represent the most advanced imaging in diagnostic radiology. Effective medical imaging technologists utilize principles of radiation protection and physics as they determine imaging factors and position patients for a variety of examinations. They are also capable of assisting in surgical procedures performed during the examination, assessing the technical quality of the image, and providing basic patient care. The technologist must function as a member of the health care team.

Clinical Exercise Science promotes health, wellness, and prevention of heart and lung disease.

Courses examine electrocardiography, clinical exercise in testing and prescription, cardiopulmonary risk prevention, and more.

Curriculum is structured around the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) knowledge, skills and ability learner outcomes; students are encourages to sit for the ACSM (Clinical Exercise Specialist) certification exam after graduation.

Graduates work in medical centers with patients who are suffering from heart, pulmonary, and other life diseases, and use a therapeutic program of exercise, risk factor reduction, behavioral modification, and education.

A Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy consists of comprehensive classroom and clinical curricula that prepare students for the credentialing exam offered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). The NBRC is the credentialing arm of the American Association of Respiratory Care. Successful completion of the curriculum and the credentialing exam certifies students as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and enables them to apply for licensure in their state of residence. Employment opportunities with health care providers range from home health and hospice to neonatal, pediatric, and adult intensive care units in UVU’s service area and across the country.

The Department of Kinesiology offers the Master of Science degree in Kinesiology. The broad mission of the degree program is to assist students in developing conceptual and theoretical understandings and to obtain knowledge and skills that will prepare them as research/scholars, practitioners, or administrators in their respective areas. Typically, a full-time student will complete the requirements for the degree in two years. Within the Kinesiology program, students may focus in their studies in the following areas, Strength and Conditioning, Sport and Exercise Psychology ,Sport and Exercise Science.

The Pre-Optometry track is available through the Chemistry major and provides you with a thorough understanding of the chemical sciences with a focus on your professional area of interest.

You'll work one-on-one with faculty to create a curriculum track that will satisfy all requirements of the degree and any that you may need to apply to professional school after you graduate. Our Chemistry program has some of the top research opportunities in Ohio, which means you'll be prepared for advanced study and a successful future in the field.

The Master of Science (ScM) degree program begins in late August/early September, with the first year devoted to coursework followed by research and thesis, usually requiring an additional year in residence. The  ScM degree is similar to the MHS with regard to the required coursework, but they differ in the entrance requirements and in the thesis requirement.

The ScM is designed for students who have completed the prerequisite courses and have had at least one year of work experience in epidemiology or another scientific field.  Successful applicants may have published manuscripts and have conducted lab or field research. The ScM requires degree candidates to complete an original research project with depth and understanding of epidemiology in their topic area. ScM students submit their publishable quality thesis for approval to the University Graduate Board.

Kinesiology is the study of human movement as it relates to exercise and physical activity. This applied science field is focused on utilizing exercise to prevent disease, facilitate rehabilitation, promote health and enhance human performance.

The B.S. in Medical Imaging Sciences includes a minor in biology, and is a joint-degree program with the Rutgers School of Health Professions (Rutgers-SHP).

You will spend the first three years taking science and General Education classes, and then apply for admission to Rutgers-SHP. Upon acceptance, you’ll spend your fourth year taking specialized courses in one of three areas: cardiac sonography, diagnostic medical sonography, or vascular sonography.

The MSCVP program learning outcomes are:

• Develop cardiovascular perfusion competence (skills, knowledge, behaviors) that are portable across national and international healthcare and professional and professional environments.
• Facilitate a positive outcome for patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass.
• Gain expertise in medical, biological, and physical sciences in relation to cardiovascular perfusion.
• Facilitate adequate circulatory support with the use of ancillary devices.
• Develop circuit designs and adaptations.
• Cultivate a commitment to the enhancement of the cardiovascular perfusion profession.

The MSCVP program has a total of 88 credits over five consecutive semesters. The curriculum aligns with the Master's degree level standard of Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the ABCP Qualifications   Framework. It also provides the appropriate depth and breadth of knowledge, applied, specialized preparation in critical thinking and scholarly research, problem-solving and analysis, communications, leadership, professional capacity, and autonomy in the field of cardiovascular perfusion.

As a student in exercise physiology, you’ll study how exercise alters the structure and function of the human body. You’ll receive a solid foundation in the basic and applied sciences and delve into physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, and allied health.

Practical, hands-on experience is woven into our program. Our professors and network of alumni will open doors to incredible opportunities in the field. Our students not only work directly with the coaches and athletes in ONU’s athletic department, but also land internships at places like the University of Oregon, the Cleveland Clinic, Akron General Hospital and the Ohio State University Department of Athletics.

The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree in Kinesiology/Physical Education provides initial teacher preparation at the master's degree level for qualified candidates who hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related discipline such as Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Outdoor Education, Human Performance, etc. The degree program is designed for college graduates whose undergraduate degrees did not include coursework or learning experiences necessary to meet CAEP/NASPE national accreditation standards and the Georgia Performance Standards in health and physical education necessary for Health and Physical Education P-12 teacher certification. Successful completion of the M.A.T. program leads to a T-5 Georgia Teacher Certification.

The Kinesiology curriculum leads to a bachelor of science degree that will prepare students for careers in human movement-related fields and/or advanced professional or graduate study. The undergraduate program provides the student with a broad general education, a departmental core integral to the understanding of the diverse aspects of human movement, and a correlate area of courses specific to the student's area of concentration within Kinesiology.

The Kinesiology program is committed to the study and research of human movement in all its dimensions. Undergraduate study focuses on exercise stress, movement efficiency, and fitness; the social, cultural, and psychological aspects of participation in physical activity and sport; coordination, control, and skill of physical activity; physical growth, development, and body form throughout the lifespan; the effects of therapeutic techniques of Kinesiology upon recovery from physical injury; and the instructional process of teaching/coaching of physical activity and sport.

The curriculum combines a comprehensive liberal arts and sciences education with in-depth study in a particular area of interest. The program of study provides knowledge and understanding essential for human movement and sport careers in either public or private agencies. The hours required for graduation include prescribed courses for all students as well as requirements determined by the various areas of emphasis selected by the student. Teaching and research emphasize hands-on learning through the use of technology and modern laboratory equipment. Graduates find employment in a variety of fields including teaching, corporate fitness, coaching, and athletic training. Many students continue their education and become physical therapists, physicians, exercise physiologists, and sport psychologists.
