Scholarships for Indian Students to Study in Europe

When it comes to studying abroad, Europe has it all: world-class education, exciting culture, inexpensive tuition fees, a high standard of living, and great career opportunities. In addition, there are over a thousand institutions and 40+ government agencies that provide scholarships to international students. Scholarships are mostly need-based, subject-specific, merit-based, or targeted to a minority segment.

The European government and universities provide various scholarships for Indian students to study in Europe. Some of the scholarships are:

Scholarships in Europe

 

1. Charpak Master’s Scholarship in France

This scholarship is intended for 1 to 2 years (from September to June, for a total of ten months per academic year) of Master’s degree studies in France for all subjects and streams of study.

The scholarship is available in two types:

a) Charpak Travel – Campus France fee waiver and student visa and travelling cost.

b) Charpak AME Scholarship – Campus France fee waiver, medical insurance up to 300 euros (INR 25229) per year, living expenses up to 700 euros (INR 58860), assistance for finding cheap accommodation.

The last date for applying for this scholarship is the 9th of April. The scholarship has some eligibility criteria as below:

  1. The applicant must be an Indian national living in India.
  2. The applicant must be no more than 30 years old at the time of application.
  3. The applicant must be a graduate of an Indian university and have studied in India.

Selection process

  1. The application will be judged on its academic merits and the quality of your statement of intent.
  2. A collaboration between your current Indian institution and your potential French institution will be beneficial as well
  3. The scholarship has no CGPA or percentage cut-off.
  4. Knowledge of French is a plus, but it is not required.

2. The DAAD Scholarships in Germany:

This fully-funded scholarship to study in Europe for Indian students is supported by the German government and open to all Indian students interested in pursuing a postgraduate degree abroad. This scholarship will cover all the expenses to study free in Germany.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The applicant must be an Indian national living in India.
  2. The applicant must be a graduate of an Indian university and have studied in India.
  3. The applicant’s degree should not be more than six years old.
  4. The applicant must have a minimum of two years of experience
  5. English proficiency requirements

The application deadline is in November of every year, and the duration of this scholarship is around two years.

Some of the financial aids include:

  1. Monthly personal allowance and rent subsidy
  2. Health insurance cover
  3. Travel allowance
  4. Monthly payments depending upon the degree level

Selection process:

  1. The application will be judged on its academic merits and the quality of your statement of intent.
  2. A collaboration between your current Indian institution and your potential German institution will also be beneficial.
  3. The scholarship has no CGPA or percentage cut-off.
  4. Knowledge of German is a plus, but it is not required.

3. Global Excellence Scholarships in Ireland

University College Dublin in Ireland awards a handful of Global Excellence Scholarships to overseas students (on non-EU fees) beginning a study at UCD in September.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The applicant must be an Indian national living in India
  2. The applicant must be a graduate of an Indian university and have studied in India
  3. The applicant must have a minimum of two years of experience
  4. Scholarships for Indian students in Europe are only available to self-funding candidates designated as non-EU in terms of tuition fees.

Selection process:

  1. The application will be judged on its academic merits and the quality of your statement of intent.
  2. A collaboration between your current Indian institution and your potential Irish institution will be beneficial as well.
  3. The scholarship has no CGPA or percentage cut-off.
  4. Knowledge of Irish is a plus, but it is not required.

The deadline for applying for the scholarship is 1st May of every year. Some financial aids include a fifty percent waiver in tuition fees and a hundred percent aid for living expenses. Scholarships are valued at up to 5000 euros (INR 420428). The duration is one year only, and the scholarship access mode is online.

Apart from the scholarships listed above, there are many financial aids provided by the European Government and universities to Indian students.

4. Chevening Scholarship to study in UK

Chevening scholarships by the British government are offered to academically brilliant aspirants under the Global Scholarship Program. They are mostly for a master’s course that spans a year, covering tuition and living costs, added allowances, and return airfare. Close to 1,500 candidates can avail these scholarships in each academic session.

Selection process

All Chevening applicants must submit their education documents, references, and one unconditional UK university offer.

List of other Europe scholarships for Indian students

1. The Orange Tulip Scholarship in the Netherlands

Grants are available for Indian students to study in the Netherlands at bachelor’s or master’s level at selected universities. Some of the participating institutes include – the University of Amsterdam (Economics & Business), Breda University of Applied Sciences, Rotterdam Business School, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and Saxion University of Applied Sciences, among others.

2. VLIR

UOS Training and Masters Scholarships in Belgium – VLIR-UOS scholarships cover tuition fees, travel, insurance and living expenses for the full duration of the Master’s programme (1-2 years).

3. UCD Global Graduate Scholarships for Indian Students in Ireland

Each year, UCD offers a number of Global Excellence Scholarships that provide 50% and 100% fee-waiver to international students starting a course at UCD in September.

4. Rhodes Scholarships

Administered by the Rhodes Trust in Oxford, the programme offers 100 fully-funded scholarships each year.

5. GREAT Scholarships

Jointly funded by the GREAT Britain Campaign and the British Council, each scholarship is worth a minimum of £10,000 towards tuition fees for a one-year postgraduate course.
