The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) is a multiple-choice, computer-based exam needed for admission to graduate programs, including graduate business courses (MBA), worldwide. Educational Testing Service (ETS) administers GRE. The GRE, according to ETS, is designed to assess verbal reasoning, mathematical reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking abilities gained through time. So, when we talk about the standardized test, one common question pops up: "If a passport is mandatory for the GRE exam? ".
Yes, a passport is necessary for all applicants outside the United States to take the GRE at any testing center. The only kind of identification accepted by GRE testing centers is a passport. Even a driver's license or another kind of identification is not accepted at testing sites in India. However, a passport number is not required to register for GRE online. GRE can be scheduled without a passport.
However, due to the ongoing pandemic, ETS has announced that Aadhar Cards will be accepted temporarily from the Indian students if they do not have their passports.
Because new passports are not being provided at a usual rate due to the pandemic, students who have not yet received their passports can temporarily use their Aadhar Cards as proof of identification.
The service's expiration date is yet to be determined. ETS is making every attempt to make the GRE test as accessible as possible for students who want to take it during the COVID-19 epidemic.
So, to answer "Is a passport mandatory for the GRE exam?", it is not mandatory to have a passport for taking GRE in the present context. Aadhar Cards are also being accepted for the time being.
