Kent State University was established in 1910 as a teachers' training institute in Ohio, USA. In September 1913, a full academic year was started with 144 students enrolled at the Kent campus. In 1935, Kent State College became Kent University. Kent State University is affiliated with the National Association of State Universities, Land Grant Colleges, and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. The university has more than 2,700 full and part-time faculty, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 20 to 1. 

Kent State University has eight campuses across Ohio with more than 35,000 graduate and undergraduate students. The main campus is called the Kent Campus. Other regional campuses include Ashtabula Campus, East Liverpool Campus, Geauga Campus, Salem Campus, Stark Campus, Tuscarawas Campus, and Trumbull Campus. Students have access to aquatics programs, outdoor basketball, tennis and sand volleyball courts, indoor climbing walls, and an indoor track at the campus. Kent comprises Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship, College of Applied and Technical Studies, College of Architecture, College of Aeronautics and Engineering, and Environmental Design and Honors College. Other colleges on the campus include the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Communication and Information, Health and Human Services, College of Nursing, College of Public Health, College of Education, College of Podiatric Medicine, and College of the Arts.

With more than 268,000 alumni worldwide, the university has produced some of the finest talents. J. Ross Baughman is a photojournalist who was bestowed with Pulitzer Prize in 1978. Michael Keaton is an actor popularly known for his role in DC Comics Batman. Steve Harvey, the famous American comedian who hosts The Steve Harvey Morning Show, studied at Kent State University.
