This route within the Master¿'s in Special and Inclusive Education focuses on Specific Learning Difficulties (dyslexia)/literacy difficulties. Students will be introduced to cutting-edge theory and research and consider how it links to policy and practice. This MA will appeal to students looking to consolidate and enhance their knowledge; develop their professional practice and/or progress to doctoral study or employment in this specialist field.

The Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) in Ecological Survey Techniques is a one year, part-time course providing the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to conduct effective ecological field surveys and data analysis for a range of key taxa.

The Education MA is a flexible course that combines interdisciplinary perspectives on education with the development of analytical and core research skills to enable students to pursue their own subject-specific interests in education. It emphasises the development of a critical understanding of education policies and practices to promote capacities for independent thought and action in the classroom. The School of Education, Communication and Society is internationally recognised as a centre of research and teaching excellence in the field of education. The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (International) is being offered through a collaborative partnership with the International School of Geneva. The course will run for one academic year for full-time students or two academic years for part-time students.

The PGCE (International) is composed of three modules, a professional module and two academic modules, at Masters level. The professional module consists of a set of standards linked to tasks which the students must show evidence of having successfully completed. This part of the course will be primarily school-based, centered at the Campus des Nations, but with students observing, and being on 'school experience', on all three campuses of the Foundation.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (International) or iPGCE is a fully online Master’s level teacher professional development programme. Whether you're just starting out in your teaching career, or are keen to take your skills to the next level, the iPGCE offers fantastic learning opportunities. You'll have the opportunity to apply what you learn from the iPGCE to your own classroom as well as the wider community.

This is ideal for teachers and teaching assistants working in international school or bilingual school settings. To study the iPGCE you must have secured a teaching post at a school before the programme start date and be able to demonstrate support from your own school. We have students on this programme currently working in international schools around the world: Spain, Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, South Africa, UAE, Pakistan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The course aims to develop your professional knowledge and skills by linking current debates in education to your practice. You can choose a specialised area: Early Years, Primary Education, Secondary Education (subject-specific), according to your interests and experience.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (International) is delivered by our academic staff who bring a wide range of experience and expertise in education. Many are internationally recognised experts in educational research.

The programme also offers a route into a full Master’s degree and a research-orientated career.

Our supervisors' current research interests, projects and publications are available from our staff profiles. Most of our staff have professional experience in teaching, speech and language therapy or English language teaching before entering academia.

Our course is one of only a few in the country to combine education and childhood studies. You'll investigate different perspectives - philosophical, psychological, sociological, historical - to get a 360-degree view on educational theory, policy and practice.

You'll discover some of the key issues surrounding child development and child psychology, and explore the themes that shape current educational policy and practice. The Employability Skills Development module in the second year will help to develop your knowledge and skills in the professional environment through a work placement or work-based project.

How do education systems reproduce, or challenge, existing inequalities? How might you intervene in education systems to promote social justice? Could you develop research-led policy agendas in your own institution?

Our stimulating MA programme immerses you in a vibrant research culture as you explore these fundamental questions and tackle a range of issues relating to social justice in education.

Studied part- or full-time over one or two years, and entirely online, the programme offers an excellent grounding in research methodologies. It offers hands-on experience of research, and the opportunity to develop a deep theoretical understanding of social justice and education, while focussing on topics of particular relevance to your own interests or professional practice. While the course is delivered online, you are welcome to participate in the department’s research activities throughout the year either face-to-face or via live-streaming, and some of our students opt to visit their tutors in person.

Our PGCE Primary has been running for over 60 years and schools tell us we are developing the kind of teachers they want to employ. This is reflected in 98% of our students achieving Good or Outstanding teacher grades at the end of their course and 95% of our graduates securing a teaching post by the end of the course.

All of our PGCE courses are made up of both campus-based sessions - which will give you a grounding in the principles of good teaching practice - and school-based placements, giving you the chance to apply your knowledge and experience to a wide range of classroom situations. These placements will be in contrasting schools to provide you with a broad range of experience; they could be in city, suburban or rural schools, in the independent or state sector.

The PGCE Primary course prepares you to teach across the full range of the Primary Curriculum. We will introduce you to the wider context of teaching, including responding to diversity in schools and the inclusion of Special Needs Education, as well as equipping you with classroom management and planning skills.

By the end of the course you will meet the required professional standards for Qualified Teachers Status (QTS) and will be awarded a University of Leicester PGCE. Our strong ethos of reflective practice will prepare you well for your future career in teaching.
