Psychology has been defined as the science of mental life and its scope includes a wide variety of issues. It addresses such questions as: how do we perceive colours? How do children acquire language? What predisposes two people to get on with each other? What causes schizophrenia?

Psychology at Oxford is a scientific discipline, involving the rigorous formulation and testing of ideas. It works through experiments and systematic observation rather than introspection.

The Oxford Experimental Psychology Department is widely regarded as one of the leading psychology departments in the UK. The department’s size and its commitment to excellence in teaching and research means there are typically four or five research seminars each week, in addition to undergraduate lectures and classes. At present, there are particularly strong research groups in the fields of human cognitive processes, neuroscience, language, developmental psychology, social psychology and psychological disorders.

We have designed our Intercalated Psychology BSc programme to provide medical students with a solid grounding in three core areas of psychology. We will also teach you transferable key research skills and knowledge which you will apply to a research project. We also invite Biomedical Science students interested in Psychology to apply for this programme.

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind, brain, and behaviour. It focuses on building and testing theories to help explain how people interact with each other and the world around them.

Psychologists study:

Psychology is an experimental and observational science, in which evidence from research studies is used to develop and evaluate theories.

Our programme has a strong emphasis on developing skills in research methods and statistical analysis, to support our research-led teaching.

This degree combines a broad grounding in Psychology with the study of how people communicate through language.

From the philosophical foundations of schooling, to the political implications of policy, education is a vast field that has multiple avenues to approach a seemingly straightforward subject. Our degree goes far beyond any classroom and considers education, people and their relationship to the ever-changing world.

The breadth of our modules allows for the creation of pathways through the course. This may be linked to one of the degree's four strands of educational expertise: pragmatic; sociological-philosophical; psychological; and international-intercultural education. You will also study modules in the Department of Psychology.

Our main focus in psychology is the study of human behaviour.

You'll study conditions of behaviour; how we learn, remember, coordinate our actions and interact with others. You'll also study the reasons for differences between individuals, such as personality or intelligence.

Due to the popularity of the course and performance criteria for entry into Honours (Year 4), numbers admitted to Years 2 and 3 of the course are limited.

Psychology is a fascinating subject that aims to understand why people behave in the way that they do, by considering the complex interplay between biological, psychological, environmental, cultural, and social influences on behaviour.

Studying psychology at Aston University will provide you with the basis for understanding why people act in certain ways, and insight into methods of changing their behaviour.

Studying business will provide you with breadth of business knowledge including the functions of management and science of decision-making.

Psychology and Business are an ideal combination of complementary disciplines, with Psychology providing you with an understanding of the foundations of human behaviour, which can then be applied to Business contexts, such as managing and motivating the workforce, making effective business decisions, and communicating effectively with customers. Likewise, studying Business will enable you to understand psychological knowledge and theories in the context of a real-world setting.

Psychology provides insights that help us to understand the behaviour of people in business and organisational contexts. Accredited by the Association for Business Psychology, our BSc Business Psychology uses knowledge of the human mind and our behaviour as a basis to investigate fundamental organisational functions, such as human resource management, finance, marketing, strategy and technology.

Psychology gives us valuable insight into many areas of life – from human behaviour in the classroom or courtroom to animal cognition and natural selection.

You’ll develop a strong grounding in the subject through modules covering cognitive psychology, language acquisition and consciousness and causality. You’ll also integrate biological approaches by studying animal behaviour and cognition, mammals and evolution, and cognitive and affective neuroscience. This Psychology and Biology joint honours degree will equip you with a broad base of knowledge. You'll learn why humans and animals think and behave the way they do, and build an in-depth understanding of the science behind all forms of life.

You'll have access to the School of Psychology's brand new building, with purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities, including a forensic interviewing suite, a nutrition and food preference unit, a media and behaviour lab, medical consultation rooms, and psychological testing cubicles. 

Emerging as a well-rounded psychology graduate with a biology specialism, you'll study fascinating topics including ecology and biodiversity, evolution and genetics, cognitive psychology, and evolutionary psychology and medicine. 

On this course you can expect to learn interesting new perspectives on how we engage with the world we inhabit. Why do you sleep? Why do people fight? How do we learn? How can we treat mental illness, or care for those in despair? There are many ways to approach such questions, and to this end we provide a comprehensive programme on the major areas of psychology. The programme will emphasise the causes and development of behaviour across the lifespan, and the ways in which people interact with and influence each other. Particular features include training in the scientific methods of enquiry and how psychology can be applied in professional settings. You will attain research skills through laboratory-based practical classes and develop statistical and computer competence.

Our British Psychological Society accredited course will give you the skills and knowledge to investigate and understand human behaviour and mental processes.

At Sheffield, you’ll cover five key areas of psychology to give you a comprehensive understanding of the subject. You’ll study:

• Social and health psychology: discover how individuals’ behaviour, attitudes and emotions are affected by social situations and how we can use this knowledge to promote healthy behaviours.
• Neuroscience and clinical psychology: explore how mental illnesses are assessed and treated as well as the underlying neural bases of cognitive functions and mental health. 
• Cognitive psychology: learn how humans think by studying their behaviour. 
• Developmental psychology: learn about how changes happen across the lifespan, from cognitive development in infancy and childhood, to emotion and cognition in adolescents.
• Research methods: develop the skills to be able to answer important psychological questions, from how to design scientifically sound studies, to analysing data and sharing research findings.

How does a child learn language? How does language relate to thought? You’ll discover there are many overlapping questions between linguistics and psychology.

You’ll start your degree studying the core modules of Linguistics, Investigating Psychology and Understanding Psychology. In your second year you’ll discover more about the sounds and structures of the world’s languages. In Psychology, you’ll discover more about experimental and research methods.

On this course, you’ll study the scientific evidence of behavior, mental health and neuropsychological functioning, to understand what makes us who we are, how our minds work, and what influences our decisions and social relationships.  

In your first year, you’ll study core areas of psychology and research methods, to develop your foundations of psychological literacy. This will be supported by small group skills tutorials. Our first year uses a "supported transition” approach, so you are specifically taught how to learn effectively at university alongside the psychological material. 

In your second year, you’ll learn about contemporary issues that impact every area of psychology. You’ll also complete a module that supports your professional skills development, covering placements, job preparation and career options available in the psychology field.  

In your final year, you’ll study an advanced critical thinking module and select four optional modules, to specialize and delve deeper into your areas of interest. You’ll also receive supervision from a staff member to conduct your own scientific research project, critically evaluating protocols, data and literature. 

Studying a BSc in Psychology with a Foundation Year will give you expert scientific training in the relationship between the mind, brain, and behaviour.

The foundation year of this four-year course will introduce you to the key concepts and knowledge you need to progress to the BSc in Psychology. Following successful completion of the Foundation Year, students will progress onto Year 1 of the BSc. 

The foundation year (level 3) will be delivered by The College, Swansea University (TCSU). Years 2-4 (levels 4-6) will be delivered by the School of Psychology. 

You will study the psychological and neuro-scientific processes that underpin activities such as thinking, reasoning, memory and language, learn about the effects of brain injury, and explore ways to improve health-related behaviour.

You will develop excellent research, written, and critical analysis skills, as well as a high degree of numeracy and ICT ability.

Our approach to teaching, which includes lectures, personal tutorials, academic seminars, workshops, and practical research classes, encourages effective team-working and high-quality oral communication skills.

By studying our Psychology with a Foundation Year degree, you develop a thorough overview of the subject through modules in health and clinical practice as well as organisational, social and applied psychology.

You build essential skills in critical analysis, developing arguments and self-expression, through a dedicated programme of support and development. These skills will be valuable throughout your studies and into your career.

After completing the Foundation Year, you can choose to focus purely on psychology by continuing onto your Psychology BSc, or to study the subject with a minor such as Education, Business and Management or Neuroscience.

Study Psychology with Cognitive Neuroscience at the University Leicester and you will benefit from a flexible degree course accredited by the British Psychological Society and taught by leading academics.

You’ll have the opportunity to conduct your own psychological research in our state-of-the art facilities including the £42 million George Davies Centre. You will also have the option to study abroad for a year in The Netherlands, or opt for a placement year in industry to further develop your employability and life skills.

You will graduate with the ability to apply rigorous psychological scientific reasoning and argumentation skills to solve problems. The accredited nature of the course means that you will be eligible to receive the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society; the necessary first step on the way to becoming a professional psychologist.

Our research-led teaching means you will learn from leading academics delivering cutting-edge knowledge. We also provide you with the opportunity to conduct your own psychological research, from design right through to analysis of data and write-up, ensuring that you are fully competent in the use of the statistical methods and software required to analyse the data you collect.

You will study topics in developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, social psychology, biological psychology, research methods and statistics, psychopathology and individual differences, and historical developments of psychological science. You will also study about how we investigate the brain basis of behaviour, the link between neural functioning and cognitive processes as well as the biological basis of mental health. You will learn through lectures, seminars, discussion groups and practical projects carried out in one of our many specialist laboratories.

The psychology component of the course (75% of the curriculum) covers the discipline’s main areas, namely social psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, biological psychology, individual differences, and research methods, and emphasises their application to various employment-related contexts. The management component (25%) of the course introduces (and allows specialism within) marketing, human resource management, finance, and management.
