You'll be equipped with a deep understanding of the global fashion industry, exploring marketing and business modules that you will apply to the world of fashion. You will explore the sustainability of the fashion industry in depth, gaining insights into how to be a responsible leader in the sector. You will be building a wide range of technical and practical skills, including pattern cutting, garment construction and computer-aided fashion design software.

Much of the practical work is carried out in our Fashion Factory, our industry standard Design and Cutting Studio. We have a purpose-built Design and Cutting Studio designed to replicate an industrial environment which provides a central hub for Fashion Design with Business students. This facilitates an authentic practitioner experience from the design process through to the production of garments.

This programme has strong links with industry. We regularly invite guest speakers into the classroom to give you an up-to-date employer and industry perspective.

You will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience through 'live' case study challenges and field trips giving you an insight into the workings of some of the most successful fashion companies. This unique programme will position you with the business and fashion skills that will allow you to enter a wide range of careers in the industry or even start your own business.

On this course we will guide you through the key elements of fashion marketing. You will learn how the fashion industry develops strategies in line with their target market. Explore how consumer behaviour theories are applied within a fashion context. You will come to understand how product, pricing and distribution strategies differ for both mass and luxury markets. Alongside this you will study the key principles of modern marketing and communications. Through your modules you will gain an understanding of a wide range of theories and concepts across fashion and marketing, including:

• The marketing mix
• Consumer behaviour
• Distribution, retail and supply chain
• Product development and product lifecycle
• Green design and sustainability
• Fashion communications and marketing.

On the BA Fashion Design degree at Cardiff Met, you will explore your individual talents through the professional design process, which creates freedom with constraints and reflectivity with spontaneity.

The BA (Hons) Fashion Photography course is designed to develop professional fashion photographers in preparation for successful careers in the creative industries.

There are three main components to the course, all of which run in parallel: Identity, Industry, and Context.

Identity 

The initial stages of the course encompass a broad knowledge and understanding of photography, fashion, design, collaboration and context, essential for any aspiring Fashion Photographer. We'll focus on your personal growth as a practitioner and help you identify your professional aspirations for employment/self-employment.

We place an emphasis on developing and advancing your practical skills and technical knowledge through an increasingly self-initiated, experimental and innovative programme of independent study.

Through this fashion marketing degree, you'll learn to fuse skills in business, design and communication. You’ll gain an understanding of the need for a considered, conscious and sustainable approach in a fast-paced marketplace. And you’ll be part of a creative community preparing for an exciting career.

This program allows you to develop the business/entrepreneurial skills and attributes to commercialize on your creative and cultural practices and/or knowledge.

The Fashion Pathway of the MA Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship allows you to build on a historical and theoretical understanding of cultural and creative industries and the development of a cultural economy to create your own creative initiatives, which might be research-based, policy-based, practice-based, or a combination of any or all of these.

The MA will be taught in partnership by a number of departments within Goldsmiths and with key individuals and organizations in the creative and cultural industries sector.

Our collective approach is to integrate entrepreneurship within the development of creative practices and to take a ‘creative’ approach to the development of new businesses and the infrastructure that supports them.

This one year top-up programme offers direct entry into the final year of a Bachelors degree to students who have successfully completed a relevant HND (or equivalent), or who have completed the second year of relevant undergraduate degree, who wish to use their current qualifications to develop skills in international fashion practices.  

The BA (Hons) International Fashion top up degree will equip you with a thorough understanding of fashion practice throughout the global fashion supply chain. The course offers a strong element of internationalisation and it will prepare you for entry into the competitive global market, whether in your country of origin or international employment destinations.

This dedicated final year programme allows you to specialise in your chosen field. The final exit award for successful completion of this course are:

In fashion design you’ll develop concepts, explore materials, design fabrics through to full fashion collections, and understand the manufacturing processes. Gain all the skills needed to construct garments; pattern making, cutting, sewing, fabric printing, and craftsmanship; while discovering new technologies.

The fashion design degree at USW offers experience of the fashion industry beyond the university environment and sets a culture, skillset, and attributes for life after graduation. You’ll engage in design thinking and a process-driven approach to solve complex issues of design, sustainability and commercial success, and develop a strong creative vision.

Our graduates are using fashion as a vehicle to address disability, politics, racial inequality, garment workers’ rights and environmental issues. They do so whether working for large brands or small studios, as freelancers or for NGOs. It is with this ethos that we make the library free to all.

Based at USW's Cardiff campus, in the heart of the city centre, you will work in new studios that simulate an industry environment. These have a full suite of manufacturing equipment, including industrial sewing machines. Our students engage in the latest technological approaches for design using software to design in 3D and 2D from anywhere in the world. This mix of live and digital design gives our students a unique experience and our graduates an edge.

Our graduates work for industry leaders such as Givenchy, Raeburn, Harrods, Top Shop, Peacocks, Clarks, Roland Mouret, The BBC, The Royal Shakespeare Company, River Island, JD Sport, John Lewis, ASOS, Fred Perry, Victoria’s Secret, H&M, NEXT and many more. Graduates have also gone on to establish their own fashion brands or consultancy firms.

Our Fashion Design course is all about pushing you to reach your true potential. To do this we have created three pathways that allow you to play to your strengths. With the flexibility to select the outcome that works best for you.

Our conceptual pathway places the emphasis on the manufacture of garments. Using creative shape-making, avant-garde silhouettes, sustainable textile solutions and pushing the boundaries. With forward-thinking concepts, creating an outstanding final collection.

Our commercial pathway places the emphasis on CAD, 2D design and trend awareness. Creating garments for specific customers. Brief outcomes would still include garment manufacture, but your portfolio work has a higher weighting.

Finally, our enterprise pathway encompasses the growing trend for start-up businesses within the fashion field. You'll work on the fashion briefs to build skills in manufacture, pattern cutting and design. But you'll have enterprise modules throughout your study. Meaning you are far more knowledgeable about setting up your own business upon graduation.

This stimulating course challenges motivated graduates from fashion and textiles disciplines to explore their chosen specialism and take their development to the next level of creative innovation. Choose from one of the following three areas to specialise in: 

Fashion Design focuses on womenswear, menswear and fashion knitwear. 

Footwear Design and Accessories covers women’s, men’s and children’s footwear and accessories for sport, leisure or fashion.

Textile Design examines printed, constructed and mixed media in relation to fashion, interiors and lifestyle.

You will focus on building creative, technical and academic knowledge, while developing a critical and contextual understanding of wider issues facing the global fashion industry. Complement your creative practice by selecting from a range of optional modules to tailor your skills to your career aspirations from marketing and business planning to responsible design and manufacture.

The course focuses on evolution and radical change in design. You will explore how design is influenced by cultural, social, critical and historical studies.

You will develop your own signature style, experimenting across sketch work, 2D to 3D, knitwear and digital print in Kingston School of Art's workshops and dedicated fashion design studios. You will also have access to our working dress archive which includes pieces from 1750 to the present day, including the recently acquired Sibling knitwear archive. Our curator also works closely with Bath Fashion Museum.

BA (Hons) Fashion is a 'classically constructed' degree that focuses on the essential partnership between innovative design and technical excellence.

In line with the contemporary fashion industry, the programme encourages students to consider sustainable approaches to their practice, exploring the relationship between good design and timeless fashion.

The programme aims to give students the opportunity to explore traditional and creative pattern cutting (including zero waste approaches), tailoring, modelling/draping on the stand, specialist finishing, fabric sourcing, handling and embellishment, and digital fabric print. In addition to 3D fashion skills, students can study the fashion design process, traditional and digital visual communication and portfolio development, in addition to other areas such as fashion trends and styling.

A key feature of the MSc International Fashion Business course is digital literacy, including, strategic digital communications and analytics. You will also develop an understanding of global fashion brand management, including, luxury branding, and will explore the ways in which consumers respond to fashion and how their needs are anticipated, identified and satisfied.

Specific fashion strategies relating to international distribution, trend forecasting, buying and merchandising, supply chain, marketing, sustainable and ethical issues will also be taught.

The course is for anyone wishing to be both creative and strategic. It will help you develop fashion design skills, and expand your knowledge of key business aspects through a combination of creative and practical study. It is designed for those who want to learn about the business of fashion but have a desire to design and make. Ultimately, this course is for anyone wishing to pursue a fashion marketing career.

This four-year sandwich course has an established reputation for producing directional designers with the creative vision and the commercial realism to begin a career within the Fashion sector.
