Our MSc in Economics & Strategy for Business is a one-year, full-time programme developed for business graduates with prior experience of economics and strategy.

The programme integrates strategic analysis with contemporary economics to prepare students for successful careers in strategy or management consulting.

There is a careful balance of teaching and learning, individual work and group work, as well as regular seminars by external speakers. Case study methodology and class-based discussions are also used to strengthen conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills.

Economics and Politics are closely linked throughout society. Our BA (Hons) Economics and Politics degree reflects this connection, exploring multiple perspectives while also helping you develop your own viewpoint. You’ll have the opportunity to cover diverse topics such as world economy, macro and microeconomics, corporate finance, international relations and development economics. In Years 2 and 3 you can adjust the balance of subjects to broaden your experience or focus in on your major area of interest. 

Our Economics degree is firmly rooted in the real world. You’ll study the ways in which people and businesses respond to incentives, and the production and allocation of resources.

In the first two years you’ll cover both macroeconomics – the economy as a whole including themes such as unemployment, taxation, investment and inflation; and microeconomics – the behaviour and motivations of individuals and companies. You’ll also learn to apply quantitative techniques to investigate relationships between economic variables.

Final-year options apply this core knowledge to more specialised areas such as labour, industrial and health economics, technology and innovation, and business cycles. You can also choose from a number of finance modules.

Throughout your studies you'll have use of a dedicated Bloomberg trading room, giving you access to the same economic and financial data used by practitioners in industry.

Economics modules are taught in the Department of Economics in the Management School, while Politics and International Relations modules are taught within the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion.

You will be introduced to techniques of accounting, such as financial reporting, management accounting, auditing and taxation. If you choose to take our Economics and Accounting BSc you will have the opportunity to gain exemptions from certain professional exams through CIMA, ACCA, ACA (offered by the ICAEW), and ICAS giving you a head-start in a career in accountancy. These exemptions are dependent upon the satisfactory completion of certain modules.

An optional year studying abroad or undertaking an industry placement will enhance your skills and build your professional network. Your time with us will also equip you with the research techniques that are vital to postgraduate study.

The MA in Economics and Business Management requires no prior knowledge of the core subject areas of management or economics. The course offers flexibility, allowing students to tailor their choices to suit their own interests. It provides students with the skills necessary for an understanding of both economic and management situations but which are equally transferable to many other situations.
