Modules

The Department offers thesis and non-thesis choices for the MS in CS degree. The former needs a more focused topic line-up while the latter offers more experience in various subject areas. There is more freedom in choosing courses as a result. 

Credits Required 

The total hours required is 30 with the core requirement being 9 hours. The successful completion of at least three courses is a must. The grade should be B or more in the same. Thesis students should choose a minimum of 15 hours while non-thesis students should choose 21 hours from the elective courses available. Thesis options require 24 credit hours for CSE graduate-level programs along with 6 credit hours for the thesis. 16 credit hours should be commensurate with 6000 levels. Students can get three independent study/internship hours at the most, three hours of one-hour seminar-based courses and up to one graduate-level course (three credit hours) which is not within the Department. 

Non-thesis options will need 30 credit hours with 16 hours being at 6000 levels. 6 hours of electives should be there in specific subject categories. Three hours of independent study/internship, three hours of seminar-based courses (one hour) and one graduate course (3 hours) outside the Department are permitted. 

Admissions for MS in Computer Science at University of South Florida

The University of South Florida MS in CS deadline is October 15th for the spring session and February 15th for the fall session in the case of international students within the USA. The deadlines are 15th January and 15th September (fall and spring respectively) for international students who are outside the country. 

You have to apply online and pay the application fee of $30. Thereafter, you have to submit your official transcripts via mail or electronic submission. The address for mailing is the following- the University of South Florida, Office of Admissions, 4202, E Fowler Avenue, SVC 1036, Tampa, Florida- 33620. Non-English transcripts should have certified translations. You also have to submit test scores like TOEFL/IELTS, GMAT, GRE, etc. 

Eligibility (Requirements)

  1. GRE scores (770 on Quantitative and 450 as a total score in Verbal). At least 161 on Quantitative or 81 percentile is required along with 44 percentile or 150 in Verbal. 
  2. GPA of B or equivalent in an undergraduate program (last couple of years). 
  3. TOEFL 79 or more with 26 in the speaking section. The minimum required IELTS score is 6.5. 
  4. Three LORs (Letters of Recommendation) and SOP (Statement of Purpose). 
  5. Applicants should have knowledge of Calculus via Differential Equations, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, etc.
