The finance department has a rich tradition of educating leaders who excel in all aspects of the discipline of finance. Whether ascending to the top ranks of the venture capital industry, executing multimillion dollar real estate deals or becoming successful entrepreneurs with their own ideas and drive, graduates of the BS program in finance from the W. P. Carey School of Business are equipped to succeed.

In particular, the Investment Banking Industry Scholars program mentors students interested in going to Wall Street. The student investment management fund provides undergraduates with the opportunity to manage a real-world investment portfolio worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Finance department faculty members are considered among the top in the world. The professional advisory board, comprised of leading professionals from the financial services, manufacturing, energy, investment banking and real estate sectors, provides a sounding board for new ideas and is a resource of jobs for top graduates.

The bachelor of science in personal finance looks at economics from a people perspective, developing financial experts who can help individuals and families live more secure lives. Graduates of personal finance are prepared to work in financial product development, financial technology, and consumer behavior. 

Personal Finance: Financial Planning (For On-Campus Students)

Within the personal finance program, students may choose to complete the financial planning option. This financial planning option is registered with the Certified Financial Planner® Board of Standards. The coursework is interdisciplinary with an emphasis on financial management and the economic well-being of individuals and families. The financial planning option is the more traditional personal finance program leading to careers in counseling, coaching, and wealth management. Graduates of the financial planning option leave fully prepared to sit for the prestigious Certified Financial Planner® exam, which SoHE students pass well above the national average.

All on-campus personal finance majors complete a required internship before graduating, allowing them to pursue their own personal interests and to develop a strong portfolio of skills and references that will propel them to launch successful careers.  

An emphasis in General Finance offers individuals the flexibility of taking courses in a broad range of financial occupations. The broader selection of courses provides both the analytical and technical skills important for banking, entrepreneurial or institutional careers. Students select courses from the corporate finance, investment analysis or financial planning emphases.

Our experienced faculty prepare students for a wide range of careers in the finance field as well as graduate study. You will learn to interpret financial information, make financial decisions and develop financial strategies for corporations and investors. Students cover concepts such as interest rate determination and monetary policy, agency issues in finance and how to calculate and apply value concepts to financial decisions. Other objectives of this curriculum include an understanding of the risk-return tradeoff and insurable risk as well as analysis of accounting information to support financial decisions.

Washburn's Business students consistently score in the 80th percentile on the Major Field Test (MFT). This national, standardized exam is given to more than 550 U.S. business schools and reflects the high quality of our program. But that's just the beginning! The STEM eligible Master of Science degree in Finance is designed to provide students with expertise to make effective managerial and investment decisions. Compared to similar programs at other schools, the MSF program at St. John’s aims to be more practical in nature, focusing on the application of quantitative methods and techniques to enhance decision making.

All MSF students automatically become Fellows of the Applied Finance Institute, which grants them preferential access to external speakers, scholarships, and events. The Investment Management track is affiliated with the CFA Institute and, with six faculty members who are CFA charter-holders, we are able to grant 24 scholarships annually to students who want to pursue the coveted charter.

The Department of Finance provides support in the areas of managerial finance, banking, financial services, business law and real estate. Students develop applied and theoretical knowledge as the basis for successful financial management of both large and small organizations and in providing financial services to both individuals and financial institutions.

The department offers two concentrations: finance and risk management and insurance. Each concentration furnishes professional education in relevant methods of financial management, preparing students to enter fields where they apply financial concepts to help solve problems and find solutions.

The Finance program at WSU helps students understand and appreciate financial markets, including the various institutions, exchanges and instruments at the national and international level.

Students gain knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in a variety of rewarding careers in the areas of corporate finance, investments, real estate and the management of financial institutions.

Students expand their learning with courses in accounting, business administration, economics, and mathematics.

Courses in liberal arts enhance writing, research, and communication skills.

Graduates are well prepared for graduate education if they decide to pursue an MBA degree at some point in their future.

The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation is globally regarded as the most recognized and respected investment credential. Since 2015, our Master of Arts in Financial Economics (MAFE) has been part of the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program, which currently includes 228 universities in the U.S. (12 universities in Ohio). As one of the three affiliated master programs in Financial Economics in Ohio, it gives YSU students access to scholarships and additional resources. This affiliation recognizes that our curricula incorporate at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK). “The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) credential is the professional standard of choice for more than 31,000 investment firms worldwide,” according to the CFA Institute. “When hiring, leading firms demand investment professionals with real-world analytical skills, technical competence, and the highest professional standards, often requiring the CFA credential for consideration.” Our MAFE program is ranked the 9th in the nation by the TFE Time.

Today’s businesses need leaders who know how to make sound financial and business decisions based on proven methodologies and principles. The B.S. in Finance at Georgian Court University familiarizes you with accounting, investing, and economics while exposing you to the business operations arena.

Of course, you’ll learn how to crunch numbers, use financial software, and predict financial risks, but you’ll go beyond that into the bigger picture—leveraging fiscal concepts and strategies to run profitable, transparent, and compliant businesses and organizations. The program also teaches you about the role communications and marketing play in a finance career. Graduates with a B.S. in Finance go on to work at leading financial institutions, as well as in the government, education, and private business sectors.

The Bachelor of Science in Finance degree program of study offers a complete undergraduate survey of the discipline aimed at preparing students for employment in the field of finance and/or for further graduate work in the field. Basic accounting and quantitative skills, plus economic theory, provide the foundation for further exploring the financial management of the firm, the nature of capital markets, and various investment strategies. Additional areas of study include financial model building techniques and the impact of globalization on financial decision making. All baccalaureate business degree programs are nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.

B.S. Finance is an application based degree with the objective to prepare students to pursue a career in corporate finance,  personal financial planning, banking, or research.  The program integrates theory with the acquisition of critical thinking, analysis, and technical skills sought by employers. Students learn about financial markets, institutions, and securities. They also learn to conduct and effectively present financial analysis of corporate projects and  financial securities. In the capstone course they will manage an investment portfolio in an active learning setting.

Through the finance program, you'll learn to connect economic theories to real world applications. You will study areas of corporate and international finance, plus a wide range of subdisciplines such as investment, cost control, financial modeling, and risk management. You will learn how macroeconomic and market conditions guide business decision making, and you will become conversant in the language and tools that financial managers use.

Coursework and internships will prepare you to launch a career in any facet of the financial sector, including banking, insurance and brokerage firms, or the corporate world, among others. Or you may pursue a graduate degree, including a valuable MBA. The choices are yours.

The Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program provides post-baccalaureate students pursuing a career in investments with a high-quality master-level education in the field of investment. The objective is to educate post-baccalaureate students to be experts in investment analysis and portfolio management. The Master of Science in Finance is open to all qualified students regardless of undergraduate major.

The U.S. needs knowledgeable and ethical experts who can navigate the world of finance. It’s a world that is becoming increasingly complex with emerging markets across the globe. Financial analyst is one of the fastest growing occupations in the country, expected to grow by 11 percent from 2016 to 2026.

At ONU, you’ll receive a solid foundation in the principles of finance. You’ll explore topics like the time value of money, the tradeoff between risk and return, capital budgeting, working capital management, the cost of capital, capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, portfolio management, derivatives, and more. To become even more marketable, you have the option of adding a minor or becoming a double major.

Florida Tech’s Finance degree program prepares students for employment worldwide in companies involved in international trade or finance. Graduates typically work in careers such as commercial banking, financial planning, investment banking, money management, insurance, and real estate.

Finance students at Florida Tech develop critical thinking expertise to evaluate global financial issues related to currency fluctuations, exchange rate risk, multinational investment, and capital budgeting. The Bachelor of Arts degree in finance at the University of Mount Union requires courses in financial practice and theory, while also giving students the opportunity to put their knowledge, talent, and skills to the test by investing real money in stocks through a student-run investment team. Mount Union’s finance degree offers real-world experience, the chance to expand understanding of the industry, and expose students to a wide range of career possibilities. Finance majors at Mount Union will also sample a variety of business courses, including micro and macroeconomics, statistics, accounting, marketing, and management.
