The BA program in business provides an innovative, transdisciplinary approach to learning, which broadens career options upon graduation. Not only do students acquire a strong grounding in the principles of business, they also immerse themselves in coursework outside the business school, supplementing the business degree.

Students completing a degree in Agribusiness must choose a concentration from five choices: Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Finance, Agricultural Marketing, Commodity Marketing, and Food Marketing.  The Agribusiness Management concentration requires courses in supply chain management, human relations management, strategic management, and agricultural or business law.  Students are prepared to enter managerial positions in a wide variety of agribusiness and non-agribusiness firms as Supply Chain Manager, Production Manager, Account Manager, Human Resource Specialist, and Facilities Location Manager.

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program in Business provides students with a high-quality business education at St. John’s University. The interdisciplinary program allows students to select seven advanced courses from the major disciplines in the Tobin College of Business as their major. Thus, students are able to create an independent, flexible, yet career-focused major within the B.S. in Business.

Students take advanced courses following the completion of the business core, which serves as prerequisites for advanced level courses in the interdisciplinary major. The interdisciplinary approach to business using our program tracks as a coursework roadmap helps develop career areas of interest that intersect with traditional disciplines, such as real estate, service marketing, analytics, financial advisory, sustainability, and more. 

The business major is one of the most versatile options for careers after graduation. The program will teach you business basics such as accounting, organizational management, marketing and communications, plus you can choose to take the writing-intensive version of the curriculum. The skills acquired in business courses will be applicable to a huge array of professions, making you a valuable resource for employers.

The Human Resource Development (HRD) program offers courses of study leading to a minor in Human Resource Development. The minor prepares professionals who will be responsible for the training, education, and development of adults, in settings such as business, industry, health care, social service, and government. Students in the program will be provided opportunities to develop the knowledge and competencies necessary to meet the increasing needs that organizations have for HRD professionals. Competencies that have been identified by professional organizations have been carefully considered in the development of specific objectives for the course work in the program.

Students interested in teaching can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business/Marketing Education and a secondary teaching license through a joint program offered by the Information Systems and Technology Department and the School of Education. The Business/Marketing Education curriculum prepares students to teach business, marketing, and information technology in secondary schools.

Consistent with the mission of the College of Business, the purpose of the General Business degree is to provide a broad-based undergraduate curriculum that allows students to customize programs of study in specific business areas that meet particular career and educational needs. In addition to the BBA Learning Outcomes, upon successful completion of the program, General Business majors will be able to:

1. Demonstrate career readiness.
2. Apply business concepts to decision-making in a business environment.

Students who desire a career in businesses that are involved in agriculture should pursue a degree in agricultural business. This degree provides students with a core set of business classes while providing education in the basic principles of animal and plant sciences, preparing students for careers in the various aspects of agribusiness including agricultural marketing, agricultural finance, international agricultural business, sales and services, or management of agricultural business.

The undergraduate major in Business and Applied Science, offered through the College of Business, is a capstone program to the many varied applied programs offered at community colleges. It is intended to prepare students for careers that require both technical skills and business knowledge. It is ideal for applied science program graduates (A.A.S.) interested in continuing their education in careers involving business and management.

In this novel program, we combine a traditional business core with 40-plus hours of environmental studies electives, ensuring that students understand the triple bottom line of people—planet—profits. The business and environmental studies degree is suited for students who want a well-rounded business experience complemented with rigorous environmental thought. Graduates seek business careers that sustain the natural environment and value social, environmental, and cultural diversity.

Information technology (IT) has revolutionized the way consumers and businesses relate and interact. For consumers, online retailing has become the dominant distribution channel for a wide variety of products and services, with massive shifts underway from brick and mortar to e-commerce and the Web, and now into social media. Not only has technology changed consumer habits, it has also dramatically changed the workplace.
