You will distinguish yourself with a degree from one of the first institutions to offer the new Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for nursing education and you will practice your clinical and communication skills both in the clinical environment and the safe, supervised setting of our Clinical Skills Resource Centre (CSRC). You will have the option to study at Plymouth, our Knowledge Spa Campus, Truro or at our new School of Nursing in Exeter.

This programme is specifically for nurses who qualified outside the UK and now want to study for an academically focused degree.

We are one of the few British universities to offer placements to suitably qualified nurses from overseas. You'll build on your existing skills and, with two assessed practice modules, you'll prepare for the challenges of modern nursing.

The course normally runs for two academic years – but you can take it over one, two, or three years depending on your academic qualifications.

Please note this programme is not suitable if you want to train to become a nurse. It is only available to qualified nurses (either in UK or overseas). The philosophy of care and support for people with learning disabilities is one of partnership in which the nurse works alongside the person to support them to lead a healthy and valued lifestyle and to exercise their rights as members of society.

The course at Keele helps students to learn about and apply this philosophy to the many different services for people with learning disabilities. The course will also equip you with the appropriate knowledge and skills to work with people with learning disabilities who have more complex and specialist needs. Clinical skills are an essential part of the course and students have access to expert staff in the Clinical Skills Laboratories to help develop and assess their practice.

Placements are embedded into the programme to enable you to develop your clinical skills. You will experience a range of clinical settings which may require you to travel out of the local area, although within a 55 miles radius of Keele.

Completion of this course will enable you to demonstrate that your nursing skills and experience are at the required standard for Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration by the OSCE. 

The BSc Hons Specialist Nursing (with pathways) is aimed at preparing Nurses for Leadership roles in a field of Nursing of their choice. You’ll gain the skills required to practice nursing effectively and professionally in a variety of health and social care settings, with an emphasis on compassion, communication and dignity in care.

People with learning disabilities and autistic people can experience greater health inequalities than many other people in society. As a learning disabilities nurse, you will deliver specialist healthcare to children and adults in a wide range of settings. This includes people’s homes, specialist clinics, hospitals, nursing and residential homes, hospices and forensic settings.

Learning disabilities nurses work in multi-disciplinary teams with the person, their family and carers, and other health and social care professionals to promote independent and fulfilling lives.

This new MSc course offers graduates from a range of backgrounds the opportunity to enter the nursing profession in two years. You will explore the value of people with learning disabilities as equal citizens and people who have a real contribution to make to your development as a caring professional nurse in this field of practice.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council introduced new national educational standards – Future Nurse Standards of Proficiency for registered Nurses in 2018. The curriculum from September 2021 onwards, is based on these standards for nurse education.

Adult nurses play crucial roles in healthcare settings by restoring and promoting health, supporting patients and their families, and responding to the varied healthcare needs of individual patients or communities.

As a nursing associate, you'll deliver hands-on care to patients. You'll work alongside healthcare support workers (holding a care certificate) and fully qualified registered nurses, bridging the existing gap between the two roles.

Through a combination of theoretical learning and practice placements, you'll develop a wide range of specialist and transferable clinical, care and interpersonal skills across all four fields of nursing. This BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing course is designed to prepare our future nurses to thrive within today’s health and social care services by providing you with the skills, knowledge and critical ability to provide person-centred care. The course follows the structure of the BSc Nursing (Adult) course with the addition of a fourth year at honours level.

If you have a DipHE in counselling (or an equivalent Level 5 counselling qualification), you can top it up to a Bachelor's degree on this 1-year course.

You'll build on the counselling skills (100 hours completed by the end of L5) and interpersonal abilities you gained in your previous studies by developing knowledge in advanced gestalt counselling skills. You'll learn the latest trends and developments within gestalt counselling theory and apply them to your practice, with professional development support in the form of discussion focus hubs, supervision and networking.

You'll also complete a research project on a topic that matches your interests and ambitions.

When you complete the course, you could work as a gestalt counsellor in areas such as education, the police service, the prison service and the voluntary sector. The advanced skills and practitioner experience you gain will allow you to work with a wider variety of clients with more complex needs.

During the course you will develop knowledge for and from practice. Using the state-of-the-art facilities at our Clinical Skills Centre, you will enhance skills and deepen knowledge within authentically replicated clinical environments. In addition, you may have the opportunity to visit a local hospital. Our curriculum is built around the real needs of the nursing profession and is fully aligned with the requirements of the British Quality Assurance Agency’s benchmark statement for nursing.
