Northeastern’s PA program is highly integrated. Small group sections are no larger than two to six students and our general lectures hold just 40 students. This means that your instructors can take the time to answer your questions and go into topics in considerable depth, preparing you for the clinical placements where you will put your knowledge to work.

Established in 1971, the physician assistant (PA) program has a long-standing history of, and expertise in, the education and training of physician assistants. The PA program is located in close proximity to Boston’s major academic medical centers and was the first generalist PA training program in the nation to offer a master’s degree in 1985.  

The Occupational Science BS/Occupational Therapy MS program, is a five-year, entry-level professional program that prepares students for personal and professional development. It is flexible enough to meet individual needs and interests, while ensuring graduates are competent to pass the national certification examination and state licensure requirements to enter the profession. The Department of Kinesiology is dedicated to the development of future leaders in professions that maximize the potential of individuals and society through physical activity, exercise, and sport.

The Exercise Physiology Program trains graduate students on the latest science of performance testing and exercise prescription for a wide range of populations. Students and faculty from our laboratory present and publish routinely on the topics in exercise assessment and prescription. We believe tomorrow’s exercise physiologist also requires skills in modifying a person’s exercise behavior, particularly patient-populations with or at risk for preventable diseases.

The program emphasizes five major components:

• individual and group counseling theory and technique;
• influence of career acquisition and personal independence on the daily lives of persons with disabilities;
• social and psychological impact of disability on an individual and family;
• federal, state, and private service delivery systems for persons with disabilities; and
• self-awareness on the part of counselors-in-training.

The Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling program offers a mental health counseling concentration. Graduates of this option provide counseling and consultative services to the general population of persons who have disabilities. Graduates of this track are also eligible to seek Oregon licensure as a licensed professional counselor in mental health settings. This program provides the freedom to complete the program in as little as 2-years while attending full-time, or 2.5-3 years for students who need additional flexibility due to work demands or distance. The flexible format combines fully online classes with hybrid courses that only require students to meet on our WOU:Salem campus 1-2 Saturdays per month during the term. This makes the RMHC program a great option for students who may live outside of the Salem area. 

Are you interested in expanding your fundamental knowledge of workplace safety? Are you able to analyze data and assess human situations in occupational settings?

The master of science in occupational safety prepares graduates for leadership positions in occupational safety and related fields. An academic experience in the design and management of enterprise-wide safety systems is provided. This hands-on program includes a strong working knowledge, practical application, and general understanding of the core discipline of occupational safety. Program course work includes analysis of occupation safety and health problems, accompanying problem-solving and decision-making techniques and the application of established principles of accident prevention, control, and reduction in occupational settings. Foundational principles and overarching academic goals of the program include ensuring effective communication skills, the ability to think critically, problem solve, and to develop applied research skills. An academic experience in the design and management of enterprise-wide safety systems is provided.

Sample areas of training include, but are not limited to safety regulations, ergonomics and biomechanics, risk assessment and risk management, insurance and workers compensation, construction safety management, fire safety, transportation safety, organizational and behavioral aspects of safety, and legal implications.

Since 1965, The University of Scranton has been preparing students to work in the wide field of rehabilitation counseling.

For over 50 years, we have been working to educate and train students for careers in a variety of counseling settings. Our primary goal is to acquire and apply the specialized knowledge, skills, attitudes and values needed to collaborate in a professional relationship with people who have disabilities to achieve their personal, social, psychological, and vocational goals.

The MS in Applied Exercise Physiology and Human Performance is offered to current students in the form of a 3+2 program. For non-PSU students and PSU alumni, a 2-year program is available. In each program, students can elect the Thesis or Non-thesis option.

The thesis option will give students the opportunity to develop a research project driven by their own interests in exercise and sport physiology. Thesis students will work closely with a faculty supervisor and will be guided through the thesis process through work in the Graduate Seminar and Graduate Thesis classes.

Students who elect the Non-thesis option will complete practicum experiences, which will give them the hands on skills they will need to be successful across a variety of fields in exercise science. Practicum experiences may include strength and conditioning, clinical exercise physiology, or general health and wellness. Non-thesis students will work closely with a faculty supervisor and will be guided through the practicum process through work in the Graduate Seminar and Advanced Practicum I and II classes.

Arcadia’s Physician Assistant (PA) program provides students from across the country with the foundation for professional growth through personal attention, quality instruction, diverse clinical experience, and a commitment to excellence. To that end, the program continues to enjoy an overall exceptional pass rate (A3.12c) on the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) board examinations, with a five-year first-time taker average pass rate for the program of 99%. 

The program's mission and goals produce graduates that are well-equipped to deliver high-quality, cost-effective health care in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, and other community settings. Arcadia’s program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission of Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).

Physician Assistants (PAs) are nationally certified, state-licensed medical providers who diagnose illness, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, provide patient education and preventive counseling, perform procedures, and assist in surgery. 

PAs often serve as a patient’s principal health care provider. PAs practice in every state and every medical setting and specialty, improving healthcare access and quality. PAs receive thousands of hours of medical training and are versatile, collaborative members of the healthcare team.

In our close-knit program, you’ll participate in faculty-led research initiatives across academic disciplines, including engineering, computer science, and sports medicine, and in areas such as hand therapy, pediatrics, concussion therapy, physical rehabilitation, and sports and fitness. You’ll explore how virtual reality, mobile technology, and gaming applications can expand the impact of health and wellness and advance the healthcare field.
