Geophysics is the application of physics to problems in Earth science. Geophysics is widely used in any situation where information on the subsurface is required—for example, environmental assessment and remediation, civil engineering, oceanography and space exploration.

Use physics to investigate the Earth's internal structure and processes. Learn about geophysical methods and what they tell us about our planet. Study the exploration for natural resources. Gain experience through field exercises and research.

Astronomy and astrophysics examine the universe, galaxies and stars as well as phenomena such as the birth of stars, how explosions of stars create fast moving cosmic ray particles and pulsars, and how the rotation of a galaxy reveals the presence of dark matter. A planetarium and two astronomical observatories enhance this program.  
 

Physicists study the material world and the energy that drives it, from the smallest particles like neutrinos and Higgs bosons, to the very largest structures in the universe, and ultimately the universe itself.

This program provides an introduction to the physics problems associated with engineering at the nanoscale level. You will have a wealth of resources at your disposal, including the Micromachining and Nanofabrication Facility, as well as the recently established undergraduate nanotechnology lab.

Studying Physics sends you on a journey to the end of the universe or into the centre of an atom. When you study the science of energy and matter, you examine the dynamics of a relationship that has kept great thinkers busy for millennia. Today physicists build lasers, design medical imaging machines and develop applications for nanotechnology. So if you’re ready, sharpen your reasoning skills and open your mind — physics is a discipline that demands as much curiosity as it does strength in mathematics.

Medical Physics explores the ways in which physics is applied in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. You’ll learn to apply physics-based concepts and methodologies to procedures such as medical imaging, radiation therapy, radiation protection and dosimetry. You will complete a thesis project and can pursue an optional paid co-op, benefitting from Ryerson’s close academic connection to hospitals. You’ll graduate with the knowledge, experience and problem-solving capabilities to provide solutions in areas related to health care.
