As a first-year engineering student at UVic, you'll take a variety of general engineering courses and declare a program specialization before entering your second year.

The Price Faculty of Engineering is Western Canada’s oldest engineering school. With a legacy of innovation, collaboration and education excellence, the Faculty is home to five engineering departments and over 20 programs and options for students. Students in our Faculty have access to resources that help them succeed in all aspects of life. All our programs have focus areas, options, specializations and streams that students can enter into to truly customize their learning experience.

Engineering Physics is one of the most competitive and academically challenging undergraduate programs at UBC. With a strong foundation of academic courses, project courses, and co-op work experience, the five-year Engineering Physics program provides you with the skills and experience needed to develop new technology and interdisciplinary engineering projects. You will take high-level Math and Physics courses, as well as courses in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. In second year, you will take courses in each of these areas and choose Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics as your specialty. The academic program is normally supplemented with technical experience, and protected time for technical work terms is built into the curriculum.

The Master of Engineering in Integrated Wood Design (MEng) educates students in the field of modern wood structures with a focus on up-to-date structural design, seismic design and mixed structures, as well as building physics, energy efficiency and sustainability.

This program provides an introduction to the physics problems associated with engineering at the nanoscale level. You will have a wealth of resources at your disposal, including the Micromachining and Nanofabrication Facility, as well as the recently established undergraduate nanotechnology lab.

Imagine designing a building that can supply its own energy. As a building engineer, you will find creative solutions to reduce energy consumption, help combat global warming and improve quality of life. You’ll create synergy between the thermal, structural, acoustic and energy systems of a building by applying the principles of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering.

Our Building Engineering program is the only one of its kind in Canada. In state-of-the-art labs designed for understanding building science, acoustics and lighting, engineering materials and solar energy, you’ll get practical experience with the tools and equipment you will use in the field.

Undeclared Engineering is an entry option that provides an opportunity to learn more about the various engineering disciplines before selecting a program of study. As all of our engineering programs share a common first semester, you’ll be in phase with the rest of your classmates when you declare your discipline.
