Studying communication at Purdue allows you to learn what to do in order to be an effective communicator, but it also allows you learn why those things are effective. So yes, you might learn how to think and write critically, how to speak persuasively, how to work in organizations and with teams, and how to produce media packages and public relations documents. But you’ll also learn why “best practices” got to be that way. You’ll gain not only skills, but also the theories that help explain and grapple with how persuasion works (and doesn’t work), the ethics of communication, and the nature of communication processes.

All students are required to take the same three foundational courses, and all students must take a writing class and a class focused on experiential learning. Students then choose one concentration that allows them to specialize.

In this MSW-MBA dual degree program, you will learn to be a competent leader who can meet the challenges of social work. You can be an advocate for the social work profession and the people you serve while having the ability to make effective business decisions. You will learn how to manage employees, interpret data for decision making and develop business plans.

You can specialize in either social work direct practice or social work macro practice.

Undergraduates in the Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work receive a liberal arts education in the social and behavioral sciences and their application to human problems that prepares them to be informed citizens involved in human services or social welfare problems and policies. Students take courses in a variety of social sciences to enable them to view social welfare in its broad social, economic, and political contexts. The Bachelor in Social Work (BSW) Program prepares students as beginning-level professional social workers.

Social work's special contribution rests on an established body of knowledge, values, and skills pertinent to understanding human relationships and the interaction between people as individuals, in families, groups, organizations, and communities. Social work courses offer a theoretical understanding of social problems and an introduction to practice methods used by social workers. The curriculum covers such areas as aging, family and child welfare, poverty, mental health, developmental disabilities, alcohol and drug abuse, diversity, race and ethnicity, criminal justice, oppression and social, economic and environmental justice, and at-risk populations.

Minnesota State University Mankato and the Department of Social Work offers an undergraduate, accredited Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) degree. The degree program focuses on integrated marketing communications to enhance your marketability to potential employers. You'll gain skills in creating messages to inform or persuade your audience to an opinion about a product or service. And you'll learn to increase product use and sales through branding strategies. The Master of Arts in European Public Policy (MEPP) is a one-year, cohort-based degree program that will prepare you to work with, or for, the institutions of the European Union. This degree program combines rigorous, multi-disciplinary academic and policy-relevant instruction on issues related to EU policies and activities, with hands-on practical training in the skills and techniques required to succeed in the broad EU policy community.

The Salem State University MSW Program offers students a comprehensive MSW experience focused on integrated practice for health and behavioral health. This is a flexible program that offers students the opportunity to create a unique MSW experience through their choices of electives and field placements. The bachelor of social work degree is the entry-level professional degree, and the Social Work Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. It enables the undergraduate professional to practice social work in a variety of settings. These settings include hospitals, schools, mental health centers, and other public and private human service agencies. The degree allows the practicing social worker to become eligible for professional licensing in some states, including Arkansas. As well as being the entry-level professional degree, the social work major offers a good foundation for students
who seek graduate-level professional education. The social work major can prepare students for advanced degrees in disciplines such as social work, psychology, counseling, and other helping fields. The social work program at SAU is grounded in the generalist practice model and works within a multidisciplinary department. It allows the student preparing for a professional practice the exposure to varied disciplines as well as the preparation in social work education.

The goal of social work is to better society by improving the conditions of those living in it. Our program will teach you how to help all sorts of people. You'll learn how to assist people who are suffering from poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, and mental illness. In this major, you'll gain skills to work with people with disabilities as well as people with chronic illnesses. Upon completing the BA degree with a major in Social Policy Analysis, students will be able to:

1. Understand social policy as an interdisciplinary field and demonstrate the ability to synthesize key knowledge, theories, and research across different disciplines in the social sciences.
2. Develop critical analysis, problem solving and research skills in order to design and evaluate evidence-based interventions for social problems.
3. Demonstrate the ability to communicate policy research and findings clearly and persuasively in written and oral formats.
4. Analyze public problems, evaluate policy alternatives against criteria such as equity, efficiency, and effectiveness, and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of social policy analysis tools and methods.
5. Demonstrate mastery of the above outcomes in the senior capstone project.
