Computer Information Technology (CIT) in its broadest sense encompasses all aspects of computing technology. CIT, as an academic discipline, focuses on meeting the needs of users within an organizational and societal context through the selection, creation, application, integration and administration of computing technologies. The aim is to provide CIT major graduates with the skills and knowledge to take on appropriate professional positions upon graduation and to grow into leadership positions or pursue research or graduate studies in the field. The CIT program also has six minors. The program’s mission is to ensure that each graduate is exceptionally well qualified to undertake a successful information career in industry, business, education, or government. In support of this mission, the program is designed so that each student will: • gain a sound foundation in computing basics, analysis and design, programming, testing, software development, security, database, software QA and testing and web application design and development. • learn the theory and practice of information technology and develop skills to apply this knowledge to analyze and solve problems. • develop analytical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills applicable to real-world problem solving. • develop effective oral and written communication skills. • appreciate the social and ethical issues in information technology. 

How is an Information Systems major different from a Computer Science major? This program has a strong business component and is less theoretical than Computer Science. You’ll get applicable, practical training in technology, business operation, management and decision making. Want to learn to create your own software? Information Systems also covers enterprise computing, which you can use to support employers’ specific operations and goals.

The CIT Major will enable students to become highly marketable as technical professionals for applications of computer and information technology.

This program focuses on information systems while providing the student with additional opportunities to pursue his or her interest in other fields such as accounting, computer networking, information security, e-commerce, industrial manufacturing, marketing, humanities or social sciences. Students will study computer programming, communications, the Internet, databases and business administration. The program includes the application, implementation and management of information systems. Both existing and emerging technologies are emphasized in this program.

The School of Computer Sciences offers a comprehensive curriculum. All students are expected to complete a core sequence in which they acquire the fundamental skills in computing or information systems and mathematics. Students may select advanced courses from a wide variety of specialized areas within Computer Science, Cyber Security, or Information Systems. Current offerings permit the student to become involved with a broad spectrum of business and scientific applications, software, and database design, or the more theoretical basis of computing. The undergraduate degree programs offer course sequences leading to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security, and Bachelor of Science in Information Systems.

The master's degree offers research-based courses to expand your knowledge in the CIS field.

The program concentrates on key applications of computing so you're ready for the real world. Advance your skills and knowledge in working with large-scale design, database design, computer networking, web development, data mining, cloud computing, application development and computer security. And through an introductory seminar, you have the opportunity to meet faculty and explore their research areas to make the decision easier when it comes to choosing an advisor for your capstone or thesis project.

You'll continue working with your professors performing cutting-edge computing research in areas like: data mining, facial recognition, computer security, computer game design and medical imaging.

The flagship educational experience offered by Johns Hopkins University in the area of information security and assurance is represented by the Master of Science in Security Informatics (M.S.S.I.) degree. A wide range of courses is available in support of this unique and innovative graduate program.

The M.S.S.I. is a full-time day program offered on the Homewood Campus in North Baltimore. Most students complete the program in three full-time semesters though some graduate students may finish their degree part-time after completing the required two consecutive semesters of residency as a full-time student.

This program provides students with knowledge and abilities that prepare them for careers in IT (Information Technology) and for continued professional development. The IT professional understands, evaluates, applies, and manages the information technology resources of individuals and organizations to assist them in achieving their goals and objectives. In addition to providing such preparation in an ever changing technical landscape, this program prepares students to be effective communicators and contributing collaborators in multiple domains.

The major courses follow a well-defined prerequisite structure with pervasive topics, such as security, spanning multiple courses.  A noteworthy aspect of the program is that the Cognate Area requires both breadth and depth of study in relevant areas and provides an opportunity for the completion of a related minor.  A capstone course in the senior year requires each student to complete a project under the direction of a faculty advisor. Also, this major requires an internship or practicum experience.

The Master of Science in Information Technology program is designed for IT professionals looking to become leaders in the field. This 36-credit program is perfect for working professionals. Students can select from two concentration tracks to specialize in: a technical track which focuses on software engineering and programming or a concentration in the growing field of health and medical informatics. 

Computer Information Systems (CIS) is important to all facets of the world, and rightfully so. CIS involves utilizing technology to conduct the operations of an organization. CIS also encompasses any technical factors that can be used to create a competitive advantage for a company. At DSU you’ll familiarize yourself with programming languages, application development, database administration, data analytics, networking, project management, systems analysis, and more.

As a student, you’ll work intricately with .Net programming as well as client and server-side web programming. You can also use SQL to work with data and discover the latest methodologies used in project management.

In the Information Technology, B.S., you’ll learn to design, implement, and evaluate computer-based systems and programs to solve an organization’s challenges. You can also tailor your degree to build skills in business, telecommunications, digital media, and database management to suit your goals and interests.

You’ll learn from full-time faculty and have the opportunity to work alongside them on research projects funded by the Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, and more. As a manufacturing technology major, you can choose to concentrate your studies on robotics or management. Both concentrations includes courses in robotics, manufacturing, computers, science and math. Our program also emphasizes hands-on learning. You’ll spend a lot of time designing, experimenting and fabricating in our labs. And you’ll tackle projects for real clients. These experiences will teach you how to work on teams, communicate effectively, problem-solve and think critically. With these skills under your belt, you’ll be in demand in the workforce.

They assist professors with research, participate in national competitions and can co-op at leading manufacturing companies. They star on our sports teams and lead student organizations.

Level 21 reflects the design, technology and management disciplines in theatre arts.  It has seven unique yet inter-related concentrations in:  Arts + Entertainment Technology, Costume Design + Technology, Lighting Design + Technology, Scene Design, Scenic Technology, Sound Design + Technology, and Stage Management.  Freshman and sophomore students learn the foundations of theatrical production with a focus on acquiring practical skills for application in advanced course work and in  theatre productions.  Junior and senior students participate in advanced study in their chosen discipline supported by one-on-one faculty mentoring of assigned projects.  Students in this area are the designers, technicians, managers, artisans and crew for over a dozen theater, musical theater, dance and opera productions at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and work on these shows in various roles throughout their entire course of study.
