This master's degree program, designed for PreK-2 educators, is based on the philosophy of the preschools in Reggio Emilia, Italy, which sees children as capable learners who want to learn, connect with others, and flourish in their environment. If you have an Early Childhood Initial license, the program can lead to a Professional Massachusetts license in Early Childhood. You could also take it as a non-licensure program.

In this program, you'll further develop your skills in early childhood environments, materials, documentation, family engagement, and what it means for children to become full citizens. Deepen your understanding of Reggio-inspired teaching strategies that promote a hands-on/minds-on approach, where children learn by exploring materials and media.

Educational administration (EDA) develops the intellectual, performance and moral capacity for leadership roles in school districts, colleges and universities, and in training and development programs for other public agencies. ECU’s master of school administration program in educational leadership is designed to prepare individuals to become school leaders. Program studies are aligned with the North Carolina School Executive (NCSE) standards and include strategic planning, problem solving, instructional leadership, managerial leadership, political analysis, organizational theory and development, and leadership skill application. You will also receive internship experience and have the option to pursue full- or part-time study.

With successful completion of the appropriate licensure exam, the MSA may lead to license in the areas of administration (North Carolina principal license 012, class P) and supervision (North Carolina curriculum instructional specialist level I license 113, class S).

The Master of Education in School Counseling is designed specifically to prepare teachers for school counseling and may also meet academic requirements for licensure as a professional counselor (LPC). The program complies with existing standards for professional certification.

Once students complete the required courses, they are allowed to take the examination for school counseling. However, certification will not be issued by TEA until the applicant has completed two years of teaching experience.

The Ed.S. in school Psychology is a 63 semester unit sequence program designed for students wishing to pursue a career in school psychology. In addition to the two years of coursework in assessment, consultation, evidence-based intervention, legal and ethical issues, multicultural counseling, research, measurement and cognitive assessment, students must complete 450 hours of applied practica.  A 1200 hour internship in a school setting is completed during the third year. A comprehensive examination given by NASP consistent with Nationally Certified School Psychologists must also be passed during the third year.

The Ed.S in school psychology fulfills all coursework needed to comply with the common and generic standards for the Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS) as well as advanced coursework which meets the CA state standards for school psychology specialization.

The Department of Psychology offers a broad education in psychology leading to the Master of Arts in Educational Psychology. The program of courses and field experiences serve as preparation for entry into doctoral or certification programs (such as school psychology certification) and is geared towards students who are interested or already involved in human services.

Programs offered in counseling are characterized by intensive clinical supervision by faculty members in an on-campus clinic and at out placement centers in the community, by strengths in the areas of family systems and couples' therapy, and by the rich multi-ethnic composition of the community, students and clients.
