Human resource managers are vital to the success of for-profit and nonprofit organizations alike because HR professionals control an organization's lifeblood—its employees.

Through our Human Resource Management major, you'll learn the processes of selecting, training and developing talent into valuable employees. The YSU Long-Term Care Administration (LTCA) program prepares you to become a specialized, licensed administrator in nursing homes, retirement communities or related health care industries. Whether you're an adult already working in long-term care and seeking professional advancement or a responsible traditional student with leadership skills and the desire to work with the elderly population, the program will help you reach your goals.

You'll spend class time learning a variety of health care and management strategies while honing your practical skills at a 1,000-hour internship. This combination of learning will make you an asset to employers the moment you have your degree in hand.

Marketing majors incorporate advertising, consumer research, strategy and sales. We designed this major to prepare you for a career, and because marketing is so important to any organization's success, we prepare you to work virtually anywhere.

You'll select one of four tracks to tailor the marketing major to your interests. By focusing on a specific area of expertise, you'll spend more time learning about what you really want to do after graduation.

You'll also learn the skills critical to landing sales and succeeding in the workplace. Communication, decision-making, research, how to build a team—all are just a few of the many qualities you'll use for years to come with your BSBA.

Our focus is on providing you timely knowledge that will lead to career success and advancement. You will learn how to think more strategically, to make better decisions and become a stronger leader. Through immersion in real-world problems and leadership practice, you will work to identify problems, pinpoint new opportunities and implement real strategies — all of these will allow you to create a bigger impact for you and your organization.

Your time is valuable. What you learn in one session, you will be able to apply in the workplace the next day. Plus, you can earn your degree in as little as 14 months. This is possible as courses are offered in a business-friendly, a concentrated format that meet over seven weeks. And for working individuals or those within an undergraduate in business or a S.T.E.M. related field, a standardized test score may not be needed.

In this master's program, you'll build a solid foundation of the administrative aspects of education, while also being introduced to methods in educational research.

Through a mix of leadership and administrative specialty courses, you'll gain the skills you need to become an effective leader in a school system, as well as its surrounding community, to encourage students and faculty toward personal and organizational success.

Information technology deals with using systems for storing, retrieving and sending information. We designed this major to prepare you for a career in performance support, project management, database systems and much more within the field.

Learn to write and produce interactive programs, design specific forms of databases and pull information using QBE and SQL—query languages used to retrieve and update information in programs. The master's degree offers research-based courses to expand your knowledge in the CIS field.

The program concentrates on key applications of computing so you're ready for the real world. Advance your skills and knowledge in working with large-scale design, database design, computer networking, web development, data mining, cloud computing, application development and computer security. And through an introductory seminar, you have the opportunity to meet faculty and explore their research areas to make the decision easier when it comes to choosing an advisor for your capstone or thesis project.

You'll continue working with your professors performing cutting-edge computing research in areas like: data mining, facial recognition, computer security, computer game design and medical imaging.

You will find chemical engineers working in nearly every industry in the world. That's because the coursework for a bachelor's degree includes a broad range of math, science and engineering courses designed to prepare graduates to work effectively on interdisciplinary teams in a professional environment.

You'll develop expertise in conducting experiments, analyzing data and solving engineering problems. The program also prepares you to design systems, components and processes with realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social political, ethical, health and safety and sustainability concerns.

Along the way, you'll pick up valuable communication skills that will serve you well in a professional environment—because a plan only works when everyone's on the same page.

You'll graduate with an expertise in projects involving buildings, roads, dams, bridges, airports and wastewater treatment facilities, making you an attractive candidate for jobs with government agencies, engineering consultants, architectural firms or contractors. In fact, the vast majority of our graduates have full-time, permanent positions in their field prior to graduation.

Civil engineers are responsible for planning, designing and supervising construction of the nation's infrastructure. The expertise of a civil engineer can lead to employment in a variety of industries. Many graduates work for transportation departments, environmental protection agencies, private engineering firms and manufacturing companies, just to name a few.

With continuous ABET accreditation since 1959, the Civil Engineering program at Youngstown State has a formula for success. You'll receive a strong foundation in math, science and the fundamentals of engineering, as well as a broad background in all major areas of the civil engineering discipline.

Instruction on the engineering design process is fully integrated throughout the curriculum to foster the depth of understanding and self-confidence you'll need to think creatively and become a productive engineer after graduation.

Through the Electrical Engineering program at Youngstown State University, you'll develop competency in all aspects of electrical engineering and its related fields. You'll take coursework anchored in engineering, math and physics that will allow you to solve complex problems and design intricate systems. Along the way, you'll also refine your communication skills and learn how to ethically and responsibly deploy your engineering skills.

Electrical engineers have homes in a large assortment of industries, from power generation and automotive manufacturing to biomedical development and consumer product design. You may even find yourself using your engineering expertise to serve your country in the military.

With your bachelor's degree in hand, you'll be the person advancing the products and systems that advance society.

As a student in the Electrical Engineering Technology program, you'll experience a combination of both classroom and lab experiences. Coursework focuses on using engineering methods and computer knowledge to find solutions to problems. By studying math and science, you will learn to support technology as well as methods, processes, skills and materials used in technology.

The program also allows you to take on greater leadership responsibility in the workplace with opportunities to excel in management as a supervisor in planning, design, construction, production and maintenance activities in one of today's fastest-growing fields. Many juniors and seniors take advantage of co-op programs with local companies, and flexible course scheduling allows you to work full or part time while completing the degree. 

The Bachelor of Engineering degree in Manufacturing Engineering provides students with expertise that focuses on the processes needed to produce physical goods and materials.  You'll gain a strong foundation in materials, mechanical engineering, and design to support your understanding of the mechanics of processes. 

You'll also gain foundational understanding of industrial engineering concepts to support their ability to optimize production systems for maximum efficiency.  Topics will include traditional manufacturing as well as modern digital manufacturing (additive manufacturing / 3D printing) processes and automation.  Graduates from this program will be well prepared for careers in a wide range of industries including: traditional manufacturers, primary materials producers, and high-tech manufacturing (including defense, aerospace, and biomedical).

So how do things work, anyway? Mechanical Engineering majors want an answer to that question. They use math and science to make and fix machines, airplanes, cars, spacecrafts and more.

However far your imagination takes you, we have a way to support it. You'll have access to fully equipped laboratories for:

• Hands-on research in our new Hydraulics Laboratory

And outside of class, you can stay connected to your friends and gain professional connections in the student chapters for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, or put your skills to use in contests like the Supermileage Vehicle Competition, Walking Robot Competition and First Robotics Competition.

Combining computer knowledge and engineering methods, you will learn how to find solutions to practical problems.

Our Mechanical Engineering Technology major focuses on application-based studies in hydraulics, tool design, machine design and robotics to prepare you for a career that lets you analyze and design useful parts and products. You'll also be able to move up to supervisory positions through courses in management training.
