Bachelors in Language in Canada

The Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education (SUNTEP) program is a four-year program designed for Métis and non-status Aboriginal students who want to teach at either the early/middle years or secondary level.

Expand your Indigenous language proficiency while revitalizing your language in your community. Demonstrate linguistically and culturally grounded teaching strategies. You’ll graduate certified to teach grades K-12 in band-run and public schools in BC. The first two years of this program are delivered in partnership with language communities.

The Spanish language is of enormous social, political and economic importance. Today, there are close to 500 million speakers of Spanish worldwide, including in Spain, Latin America and North America.

Students in the Spanish program will develop Spanish language skills and learn about the literary and cultural heritage of Spain and Latin America.

Choose to major in English Literature, English Language, or Language and Literature. As an English student, you'll study the history and structure of English, rhetoric and discourse, literary studies, and much more.

Study for a degree in English and prepare to be an effective communicator, critical thinker, or creative writer. Apply your skills to many rewarding careers including public relations and writing novels, blogs, textbooks and advertising copy.

You will engage in critical writing and analyses of Canadian, British, American and International literature in English. Craft your storytelling skills with classes in creative writing (fiction, poetry and non-fiction). 

Our Bachelor of English degree encourages interdisciplinary learning through cultural studies and visual media, gender studies, literature and the environment, and animal studies. 

This program unites literary studies, creative writing, and film and television studies under one popular department.  

Linguistics is the scientific study of human language. It explores the many intricate rules that govern and structure all human languages, including grammar and phonetics. Linguistics also offers understanding of the physical, mental, and social processes that surround all verbal and non-verbal communication.

If you’ve ever wondered how the brain processes language, how infants learn to speak, why different people have different accents, how languages have evolved over time, or how we can preserve endangered languages, then linguistics is for you!

Take on the narrative of the human story, through analysis and the re-interpretation of historical events. Challenge your assumptions about the human condition by reflecting on the lives represented in literary texts from ancient Anglo-Saxons to contemporary post-colonial voices from around the world.

The Joint Specialization in English and History will help you develop a vocabulary for making thematic connections across time. The course requirements are designed to allow you to examine the same period of history and literature in tandem, or pick complementary periods by topic.
