The Computer Information Systems (CIS) major has as its focus the processing of data for business or government use. File processing and database management are central to this activity, which typically includes replication of clerical function, generation of management reports, and provision of decision support information. Graduates of this program typically are recruited as business application programmers, web designers, database developers or administrators, technical writers, network administrators or support staff, or as end-user computing support personnel.

The Biology Department fosters in all students an understanding of and curiosity about the living world and biological processes, an appreciation of how scientific knowledge is acquired, and the ability to apply your knowledge and skills to generate and address new questions.

The Biology Department is at the forefront of biotechnology, offering students an opportunity to study the technologies and products that improve our lives and the health of our planet. Students who are interested in biotechnology can prepare for careers in combating disease, reducing our environmental footprint, feeding the hungry, creating clean energy and more of society’s most pressing challenges.

The Biology Department, in collaboration with the Education Department, offers a program of study leading to licensure by the Massachusetts Department of Education as a Teacher of Secondary School Biology. 

This program prepares you for becoming a science teacher in Massachusetts. By graduation, you'll be ready for recommendation to the Mass Dept of Education for Initial Licensure in Chemistry or Gen Science.

A chemistry degree program small enough that you will know all your peers and instructors while receiving individual attention, but large enough to have faculty representing the disciplines of organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, geochemistry, biochemistry, and biophysics as well as chemistry education. 

The Earth System Science degree provides a strong foundation in the classic disciplines of science: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This foundation serves as a basis for exploration of the interaction within and between Earth’s systems (atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere). Emphasis is given to the physical processes that dictate the mechanics that are in operation within each sphere and control their behavior. The degree integrates recognition of both natural and anthropogenic changes through time as well as linkage of causation and effect between the systems. This degree is recommended for students who envision a career in the Physical Sciences in a variety of disciplines in government, regulatory agencies, or private industry such as laboratory technician, city planning, or consulting as well as a sound foundation for students continuing to graduate school and advanced degrees or pursuing academic careers.

Graduates are able to successfully plan, implement and evaluate communication programs directed toward relationship building between organizations and their publics. 

The Computer Science (CS) major has as its focus core CS areas of software design, data representation, data management, and transmission of data via files and networks. Application areas engaging CS majors are web development, computer hardware organization, networking, security, graphics, simulation and artificial intelligence. Generally, graduates of this program of study are recruited as systems programmers/administrators (with responsibilities in the areas of compiler, operating system or utility program design), network, database or security administrators, web programmers, scientific or application software engineers, designers, or analysts.

Regional planners draw on geographic data and trends and prepare plans for transportation networks, environmental protection, historic preservation, and economic development. They work with elected officials, community groups, field scientists, architects, and engineers in order to plan and design cities and towns guided by the triple bottom line of sustainability: ecology, economics, and equity.

Environmental Planners are concerned with the physical environment in both its built and natural dimensions. They work closely with environmental scientists and engineers to ensure the ecological integrity of air, water, and biodiversity in cities, towns, and regions. Environmental planners are called upon to develop resiliency plans to help communities and regions address threats associated with climate change.

Sports management jobs include athletic director, business development coordinator, contract administrator, contract negotiation manager, event coordination, facilities manager, sports marketer, guest relations manager, corporate partnership manager, sports analytics manager and sports agent.

Our graduates go on to teach in public and private school systems. They find employment as actuaries, in the financial sector, with private companies and with government agencies. Many will go to graduate school and earn advanced degrees in Mathematics, Statistics, Information Technology, Engineering, Business and other fields.

The Advanced Mathematics for Elementary Education major is an excellent choice for students seeking licensure in Elementary or Special Education who wish to earn a strong credential in elementary mathematics education in order to pursue a career goal of elementary mathematics specialist (EMS). Students in this major must simultaneously be enrolled in one of the following B.S.E. degree programs:

In the Computer Science and Mathematics double major, students will develop modern technical skills in modern computer science as well as explore analytical and decision-making concepts in mathematics.  In the ABET-accredited Computer Science major, students will learn a variety of programming languages and use these learned skills with applications in database management, networking, software development among many others.  In the Mathematics major, students will develop skills in statistical analysis and model selection with other opportunities to take abstract or applied mathematics electives, depending on the student’s interest and career goals.

By selecting appropriate core courses and mathematics electives, a Mathematics major may add a second major in Economics by completing additional upper-level coursework in Economics.
