The Department of Population Health at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) offers a Bachelor of Science in health care administration that emphasizes the conceptual and analytical skills required to manage contemporary health care organizations. Students will develop skills in management, health promotion, planning, and human resource administration. Graduates of the program will be prepared to coordinate the delivery of services to prevent disease and foster wellness in the communities they serve. Their decisions can help improve the lives of hundreds, or even thousands, of people every day.

The Bachelor of Science in Human Performance and Wellness Management prepares you to design, develop, implement, and maintain health and wellness initiatives in a wide variety of settings. Corporations, hospitals, and government agencies see the positive effects a wellness program has on their employees and the community, leading to an increase in job demand. In addition, there continues to be a strong demand for performance specialists to train athletes at the youth to elite levels to assist the athletes in reaching the next level.

The main objectives of the human performance and wellness management program are understanding the health/wellness issues that face individuals and the role that corporate and community wellness programs play in addressing these problems; planning, developing, and establishing effective wellness and exercise programs; creating appropriate training protocols for a variety of individuals ranging from recreational athletes to special populations to elite competitive performers; facilitating, teaching, and promoting wellness program content areas; and managing and directing staff, facilities, and budgets of fitness and wellness programs.

The Degree in Human Performance and Wellness Management will also prepare you for a career in corporate and commercial fitness and/or prepare you to apply to occupational therapy graduate programs or other kinesiology and exercise science - related graduate school programs. The Master of Science in Project Management program (PMGT) is targeted toward professionals engaged in managing the project life cycle in organizations and industries, who face challenges of introducing new products and services in rapidly changing environments.

These professionals must draw upon a host of knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as on sophisticated technological tools and techniques, to meet project requirements. The program will enable students to develop these competencies, and prepare them for effective project management, both functionally and strategically, and will address all aspects of the product life cycle from design to delivery and cash collection.

In addition, the program will prepare students for certification by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the premier certifying organization for the project management discipline.

The Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity  prepares students for professional work in business and industry, as well as government and law enforcement. You will learn the techniques to collect, preserve, analyze, and report digital evidence.

As part of its operations, the department of Computer Science houses the Sam Houston State University Center of Excellence in Digital Forensics, a center dedicated to the development of digital forensics training for law enforcement personnel and research opportunities into forensics
and security issues.

The Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering is designed to provide the skills and competencies required by students wishing to pursue a career in software development. Software developers typically focus on either systems or applications. Systems software developers create and maintain the operating systems that make computers and devices run. Application software developers design software programs that run on computers and devices, such as databases and games. Successful software developers are often strong in mathematics, effective communicators who work well with others, and detail-oriented.

The applied Geographic Information System (GIS) graduate program will give students the critical knowledge to succeed in the challenging world of geospatial technologies. This includes advanced classes and labs in GIS (ArcGIS), remote sensing (ERDAS IMAGINE), web-based mapping, model builder, programming, and spatial analysis. In particular, this program is designed to enhance an individual's knowledge in geographic information science and technology. Additionally, applications of the technology in the oil and gas industry, public health sector, parcel mapping, local government, law enforcement, national security, and market research are featured.

The GIS master's program offers two tracks; a Traditional track that offers a mix of face-to-face and online classes and a Professional track that is offered completely online.

The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering Technology teaches students to use engineering and business management principles toward problem-solving and technical innovations in the agriculture, environmental protection, and related industries. The purpose of the agricultural engineering technology curriculum is to provide an educational experience based on the fundamentals of engineering principles, practices, and industry-related skill sets. Theory-based lectures and experiential learning activities will engage students and proved them with real-world experiences.

While many options exist, popular minors paired with the agricultural engineering technology major include, the Agricultural Business, Plant and Soil Science, Animal Science, Construction Management, Industrial Safety and General Business. Additionally, agricultural education teaching and Power Machinery Management concentrations are also popular options. Students may also engage in industry-based internships.
