Salem State University offers 33 undergraduate degree programs in fields like humanities, social sciences, and business. In addition, it is an American state-funded institution located in Salem. It was established in 1854, and is the oldest and largest institution of higher learning on the North Shore, playing a crucial role in the development of Massachusetts' state college system. The essential grounds (North Grounds) are located near the intersection of Lafayette Road and Loring Road, about a mile south of the center of Salem. Salem State College is divided into six distinctive grounds, with a total area of 115 sections of land and about 33 buildings.
