Western Illinois University is a public institution in Macomb, Illinois, USA. It was founded in 1899 as the Western Illinois State Normal School to prepare teachers to work at grammar schools throughout the state. It became Western Illinois University in 1967.

Currently, the university holds the accreditation of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and many of its programs are approved by various relevant accrediting agencies.
