Situated in Canberra, Australia's capital, the Australian National University (ANU) is a public research institution and a member of the Group of Eight. Acton's main campus is home to multiple national academies and institutes in addition to seven teaching and research colleges.

ANU is the only Australian university founded by the Australian Parliament, having been established in 1946. Canberra University College, which was founded in 1929 and merged into ANU in 1960, is where it all began. ANU employs 4,517 people and has 13,329 undergraduate and 11,021 graduate students enrolled. 

The main campus of the Australian National University (ANU) spans the Acton neighborhood of Canberra, which is made up of 358 acres of primarily parkland with academic buildings situated inside. Since the founding of the national capital, many university locations have had historical value. More than 40 buildings have been included to the Commonwealth Heritage List, and numerous more are listed on local lists. ANU was named the second greenest university campus in Australia in 2011 and won an international award from the sustainable campus network in 2009 thanks to its more than 10,000 trees on campus.
