This programme will give you the opportunity to learn about the lives of wild animals and plants, the challenges that they face, and how we can help to overcome these. You will explore the rapidly developing field of conservation science, including threats to biodiversity and opportunities for habitat management and creation. You will learn about the biology and behaviour of animals, the importance of a variety of biomes and the different flora and fauna that they support. Then consider how we can use this understanding to aid their protection using interdisciplinary approaches. This course is grounded in biology but will also explore social and economic issues related to Wildlife Conservation and encourage you to explore and develop brave new creative approaches to protecting the natural world. Field work will form an important part of your study as you learn through interaction with nature and develop your practical skills and employability

On our Marine Ecosystems and Governance course you’ll develop an understanding of key concepts and issues. You’ll also develop the skills and qualities required for a career in academia or industry.

Through a combination of taught and research modules, our course will develop your understanding of:

• the roles of science, policy, technology and economic development in the marine environment
• marine environmental issues, their origins and possible solutions
• the principal processes maintaining and altering structure, function and ecosystem services of coastal waters
• the key concepts and methodologies used in ecosystem, environmental management and conservation science
• the context, purpose and implementation of resource mapping and evaluation

You’ll examine the challenges involved in managing historic buildings and look at the role they play in the sustainable revitalisation of our towns and cities.

As well as exploring the techniques of conservative repair, adaptation, retro-fitting and extension in depth, you’ll also analyse the legislation involved in the protection of historic sites. You’ll gain an understanding of the challenges heritage experts encounter in finding viable uses for at-risk buildings in ways that are economically, environmentally and socially viable, while managing to conserve what makes them special.
