The BSc Dental Therapy and Hygiene with Integrated Foundation Year is designed for applicants who wish to study Dental Therapy and Hygiene but who are not currently appropriately qualified for entry to year one of the undergraduate course. The course equips you with the scientific knowledge and skills needed to become a confident, critically self-aware, independent learner ready for the challenges of higher education. The course may be particularly of interest for qualified Dental Nurses.

The two-year, part-time, postgraduate diploma in Endodontics aims to enhance the endodontic skills of newly qualified dentists and experienced practitioners. It will develop their technical, diagnostic and treatment planning skills necessary to practice modern clinical endodontics. This will be facilitated by hands-on patient treatment sessions under close supervision and laboratory sessions. Seminars will serve to increase the knowledge and understanding of the scientific basis of endodontics and to enable them to use evidence-based dentistry in clinical endodontics.

This BSc (Hons) in Oral Health Sciences is the only four-year honours degree in this subject in Scotland. Graduating from this programme earns you a qualification in dental hygiene and dental therapy.

This degree offers a broad scientific and clinical base and prepares you to practise as a dental hygienist-therapist. Professionals in this field have skills in preventive, periodontal and restorative therapy and provide 70% of routine dentistry for the UK adult and child population.

​The Masters degree in Dental Technology offers specialist training building on an initial qualification in dental technology.

There are no required attendances to Cardiff Metropolitan University for this programme as it is delivered via distance learning. This will necessitate students accessing video conferencing over a PC with a broadband connection. There will be weekly meetings within each module. Students are expected to carry out at least 6 hours of practical work per week in their laboratory/workplace throughout the academic year.

This MSc focuses on the latest scientific developments in oral biology and health, while also covering basic science in a clinical context, giving you a comprehensive yet specialised biomedical skillset. You’ll discover the latest advances in therapeutic dentistry, nano-dentistry and dental materials.

This MSc is also available for intercalating BDS Dentistry students.

There are only 29 places for UK students on this program so it has a friendly, intimate feel and allows for more discursive, interactive learning. You will be based in our Dental Education Centers for the majority of the final three years - a very different model from a traditional dental school and one that we firmly believe prepares you better for life in practice.

In the first year of this graduate entry pathway, you will be based in our purpose-built Dental School in Preston developing clinical skills and supporting knowledge, as well as an understanding of how the human body works in health and disease. You will also spend Year 1 studying on campus, before relocating for three years of clinical training at one of four local community Dental Education Centers (DECs) in Accrington, Blackpool, Carlisle and Morecambe Bay, where you will treat, under supervision, patients who have problems and dental needs of the type that are seen in general dental practice.

On this course you'll learn all about the structure, function and maintenance of oral and dental tissues. You'll learn about the basic and applied sciences underpinning clinical dentistry, including anatomy, oral microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, physiology, tissue engineering, medical sociology and dental materials. This research-led course puts you at the forefront of developments in healthcare.

You'll work on innovative research projects, such as the molecular and cellular bases of regeneration and tissue repair. We'll help you to develop the technical skills needed by employers.

This degree includes an opportunity to go on a research-informed placement where you'll learn how science can provide commercial healthcare solutions. You'll also have the chance to work with the local community to promote the public understanding of oral health.
