This course will educate you in all aspects of creative visual practices and cultures and will also enable you to build a high level of expertise in one of two specialisations:

• Art history and curating
• Fine art

You will engage directly with professional artists as well as with practitioners from allied creative fields including art theory, administration, management, education, writing, design and the curatorial.

Art history and curating will prepare you to operate effectively within the expanded field of art history, criticism, curating and cultural production more generally. You will be able to situate fine art in relation to broad social, cultural, environmental, historical and theoretical developments, explore forms of writing about art and visual culture, and study curatorial theories and practice related to the presentation, interpretation and promotion of art works in exhibition settings. This specialisation is also available in a double degree course. You can develop your critical and curatorial practice and integrate this your expertise in the field of your second degree such as arts, business and media communication.

You will graduate not only with advanced technical and creative skills, but also with highly developed legal knowledge you can apply within the film, screen and new media industries. You can also pursue a career as a barrister or solicitor in private practice, or to practise with large companies, in government agencies, or as a policy adviser. Through the combination of film, screen and new media with law, you will enhance your employability in your chosen field, whether in the legal fraternity or as a creative practitioner.

The Master of Theatre and Performance is a creative practice and research course, integrating theoretical and practical study. At the core of the course is a substantial creative project* which you undertake as playwright, director, actor, designer or drama educator, and on which you write a short dissertation which builds in the knowledge and understanding gained through the creative work.

You will also undertake research, and gain skills in the entrepreneurial aspects of the theatre and arts management.

There will be an opportunity to choose areas of study to further develop your skills in writing, contemporary theoretical approaches, research methodology and/or the study of theatre history.

On completion of this course you will have gained an advanced understanding of theatre theory and production, valuable research skills, and the ability to apply established theories to a body of knowledge or practice.
