The purpose of the Business Administration program is to prepare students for careers in management and administration positions in all types of organizations in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors.

Business Administration majors acquire skills on how to budget, organize, plan, hire, direct, control, and otherwise manage various organizations. Many students also add another major or minor to add to their areas of competencies and skills.

The effective management of the human resources of an organization is critical to the organization's success.

Thus, the goals of human resource management are the efficient and effective utilization of human resources in order to achieve the strategic objective of the organization while facilitating the accomplishment of individual goals.

HRM involves all of the decisions and practices that relate to managing people in organizations.

The means to achieving the goals of HRM are accomplished by developing a knowledge base in job analysis, human resource planning, recruitment, selection, training and development, compensation and benefits, human resource management law, labor relations, and continuous quality improvement processes.

An information system is the power behind the decision making process of an organization; it is an integral part of an effective management system.

The information system professional utilizes tools, techniques, and concepts of various disciplines such as computer science, management science, and organizational behavior.

These interdisciplinary tools, combined with an understanding of the basic needs of an organization, enable the information system professional to apply computer technology to the solutions for a wide range of business problems.

It is the traditional physics major, designed principally for students who wish to pursue graduate study in physics and related fields.

This program is designed for students who want to become strategic communicators and manage how others view a business as well as its products or services.

Data are everywhere. Statistics is the science of data interpretation, of using data to arrive at informed, intelligent decisions. Data are just the raw material of knowledge; being a statistician means having the ability to extract, synthesize, and communicate meaning from the sea of data that surrounds us in our information-saturated world. From astronomy; biology; economics; social science; education; public health; psychology; medicine; sports; and marketing; statisticians are relied on to advance the state of knowledge in the field. As statistician John Tukey put it, “The best thing about being a statistician is that you get to play in everyone else’s back yard.”

And another best thing about being a statistician? Employers want you! According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for individuals with a background is statistics is projected to grow. Employment of statisticians is projected to increase 27% percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average job. This growth is expected to result from more widespread use of statistical analysis to make informed business, healthcare, and policy decisions. Furthermore, an increasing number of positions are available for those with only a bachelor’s level training.

Winona State University has created the first undergraduate program in Data Science in the upper Midwest.

This degree program requires knowledge from statistics, computer science, and a domain-specific application area. This program was developed in consultation with several industry partners which ensures graduates will have the skills necessary to meet the rapidly growing demand for data scientists.

The Finance program at WSU helps students understand and appreciate financial markets, including the various institutions, exchanges and instruments at the national and international level.

Students gain knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in a variety of rewarding careers in the areas of corporate finance, investments, real estate and the management of financial institutions.

Students expand their learning with courses in accounting, business administration, economics, and mathematics.

Courses in liberal arts enhance writing, research, and communication skills.

Graduates are well prepared for graduate education if they decide to pursue an MBA degree at some point in their future.

For those wanting to continue their education in an academic, non-legal setting, one should consider the Law & Society Option B.A. degree in Legal Studies. This is a richly interdisciplinary major that enables interested students to study law and legal culture from many disciplinary, conceptual, historical, theoretical and empirical perspectives. Along with completing the regular sequence of legal specialty courses, students will earn credits in several interdisciplinary courses that demonstrate the convergence of the law in all aspects of society.

For those wishing to practice as a paralegal or immediately enter law school, we have the Professional Option B.S. degree in Legal Studies. Students in this program will take electives in Legal Studies as well as the regular legal specialty sequence of courses, all taught by practicing attorneys or individuals with extensive experience in paralegal education. Students complete their education by completing an internship in the legal community. 

Clinical Exercise Science promotes health, wellness, and prevention of heart and lung disease.

Courses examine electrocardiography, clinical exercise in testing and prescription, cardiopulmonary risk prevention, and more.

Curriculum is structured around the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) knowledge, skills and ability learner outcomes; students are encourages to sit for the ACSM (Clinical Exercise Specialist) certification exam after graduation.

Graduates work in medical centers with patients who are suffering from heart, pulmonary, and other life diseases, and use a therapeutic program of exercise, risk factor reduction, behavioral modification, and education.
