The Finance major offers a variety of courses, both to students who concentrate their studies in finance and to those who desire additional knowledge in various financial areas. Finance majors learn the basic principles of accounting, economics, and quantitative methods, plus corporate finance and investments. A suggested course to explore this career path is FIN 300.

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty are readily accessible both inside and outside the classroom and students have every opportunity necessary to grow personally and professionally.

Courses cover all the essentials: circuits, software, semiconductors, embedded systems, computer architecture and others. The undergraduate degree culminates in the capstone design courses where seniors work in teams to handle real-world problems outside the classroom and get a taste of real world engineering work. Undergraduate certificates are also available in power and energy as well as nanoscale engineering.

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Engineering Technology (CPT) degree offers curriculum designed to provide in-depth knowledge of hardware and software design, development, applications, and maintenance with a mix of both classroom and laboratory experiences that is in demand by industry.

Information Communication Technology students gain knowledge and skills needed to effectively apply, use and manage technology when solving problems specifically related to information and communication. ICT majors may pursue one of two concentrations. ICT Commercialization: Focuses on ICT as an enabling tool to drive economic growth. Technology Management: Focuses on using technology to provide a stable operating environment. NEW: ICT is excited to annouce their new track-Information Studies.   The information studies track allows students to learn how information can be created, communicated, stored, and/or transformed to benefit individuals, organizations, and society. In our information based society, teaching practical skills for analyzing, processing, managing information that will allow them to then create technology-based solutions using a user-centered approach and evaluate the roles of information in a variety of organizational settings is a valuable skill set that is currently sought by employers.

The University of Kentucky is proud to offer the only undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering in the state of Kentucky. New graduates are needed to meet industry demand in Kentucky, the Southeast region and the country. The Aerospace Engineering program is led by numerous faculty members with highly reputable research and expertise in a broad range of aerospace applications including controls, propulsion and hypersonics. 

Biomedical engineering (BME) is a multidisciplinary field that applies engineering principles and design methods to improve the interaction and integration of engineering with medicine and biological sciences for improving human health and solving healthcare challenges. 

Biosystems engineering integrates aspects of traditional engineering fields like mechanical, chemical and civil engineering with biological sciences, and focuses on agricultural and environmental applications. Biosystems engineers are challenged to improve the sustainability of production systems, decrease or eliminate environmental hazards and preserve natural resources. Biosystems engineers devise practical, efficient solutions for producing, storing, transporting, processing and packaging biological and agricultural products. They solve problems related to systems, processes and machines that interact with humans, plants, animals, microorganisms and biological materials. They also develop solutions for responsible, alternative uses of biological products, byproducts and wastes and of our natural resources—soil, water, air and energy.

Chemical engineering emerged over a century ago when engineering professionals were needed to design and implement processes for large, commercial scale chemical production. Modern chemical engineering combines knowledge of chemistry and molecular interactions with the discipline of engineering to address problems at both the small scale (designing nanodevices, for example) and the large scale (bringing chemistry out of the lab to the full scale production of items that we use every day). Chemical engineers invent new processes, improve existing ones and designand operate plants and equipment to transform raw feed stocks into useful products across a wide range of industries including agricultural and food-based products, consumer products, fine chemicals, fuels and petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics and electronic materials.

Civil engineers design, construct, supervise, operate, and maintain large construction projects and systems, including roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment. Students interested in the broad field of civil engineering must have a solid foundation in physics, chemistry and mathematics as well as excellent communication skills. They must be effective members of teams and implement interdisciplinary solutions to technical and socioeconomic problems of an increasingly complex world. All of our students have both a professional and a faculty advisor to help them plan their academic program and career.

The undergraduate electrical engineering degree program seeks to produce graduates who are trained in the theory and practice of electrical and computer engineering and are well prepared to handle the professional and leadership challenges of their careers. The program allows students to specialize in high performance and embedded computing, microelectronics and nanotechnology, power and energy, signal processing and communications, high frequency circuits and fields, and control systems, among others.

Lean Systems Engineering Technologists are employed as Lean  Continuous Improvement Engineers,  Lean Engineers,  Manufacturing  Engineers, Lean  Process Improvement  Engineers, Supplier Quality  Engineers, Lean Manufacturing Specialists and Quality Engineers. They are employed by the manufacturing and non-manufacturing industries, nongovernmental organizations, and government labs for manufacturing and analysis.

The materials engineer is responsible for the selection, preparation and application of existing materials and for the development of new and improved materials. Materials engineers study the relationships between atomic and/or molecular constitution, microstructure and physical properties including mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical behavior. Classes of materials include metals, ceramics, polymers, and electronic materials.

From aerospace to manufacturing and aviation to acoustics, a degree in Mechanical Engineering can prepare you for an exciting career in a variety of industries. Examples of products and processes developed by mechanical engineers include engines and control systems for automobiles and aircraft, electric power generation, lifesaving medical devices, robots, and high-tech consumer products such as low-energy lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, and household appliances. Mechanical engineers use mathematics, computers, sophisticated modeling and analysis to solve problems associated with energy usage, propulsion, power generation, sound and vibration, machinery design, and manufacturing.  In short, mechanical engineers play a part in designing and building the mechanical devices and systems that are essential to our everyday lives. 

Mining engineers find, develop, and recover the resources needed to support the daily needs of society from the minerals required to support our daily health to the materials used for roads, buildings, computers, cell phones among most other items used daily. The mining engineering discipline requires a broad range of basic engineering skills along with the ability to apply specialized technical knowledge in the areas of geotechnical engineering, explosives engineering, ventilation, mine power systems, automation and control, environmental engineering and extractive metallurgy.

Animal Sciences involves studying and applying the basic principles of nutrition, reproduction, and genetics to the production and management of animals: horses, dairy and beef cattle, sheep, swine, poultry, and other domesticated species.
