Our finance major provides you with a broad background in corporate finance, international finance, investments and financial markets/institutions. It prepares you for a career in corporate treasury functions and financial service firms such as commercial and investment banks, securities firms, money management firms, insurance companies, real estate companies and financial planning organizations.

During their senior year, SU students have an opportunity to complete an internship at a variety of business, government or nonprofit organizations. Students in this major may also take part in the Practicum in Portfolio Management, an innovative program designed around a student-managed investment fund, managing a portion of the University endowment. The business analytics track is intended to prepare students for successful careers across a range of professions and industries that require data-driven decision making. Examples include marketing, finance, business management and health care. Students learn how to transform data into keen strategic insights, using various modern decision models and machine learning tools. Completion of the track prepares graduates to be competitive candidates for entry-level professional business analytics positions in any organization, both within the private and public sectors, immediately upon graduation.

The program curriculum emphasizes business and organizational studies as well as information systems technology. Students are prepared to enter careers in areas relating to developing, maintaining and using information in a variety of organizational settings.

The information systems major addresses information analysis, business system design and information systems management. The program curriculum emphasizes business and organizational studies as well as information systems technology. Students are prepared to enter careers in areas relating to developing, maintaining and using information in a variety of organizational settings.

Students become familiar with modern computer technology and how appropriate hardware and software are integrated into analyzing business problems. Students learn how to apply computers, software and systems techniques to solve information systems problems within organizations and provide managers with the information needed for operational and strategic decisions. The major balances theory and application to prepare students for careers in private-sector or public-sector positions such as business systems analysts, information resource managers, database and network administrators.

The enterprise information systems track empowers students with an understanding of the role of intelligent enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in managing integrated business processes in increasingly digitalized organizations. Specifically, students in this track will be able to explain key business processes that involve a variety of functional areas; gain insight into how ERP systems support, automate and enhance integrated business processes; and develop technical skills and an in-depth knowledge of how ERP systems are configured to facilitate planning, control, coordination and decision-making in organizations. Hands-on experience with a market-leading ERP system (SAP S/4HANA), along with a solid understanding of business processes, will set students up for success in an increasingly digital world. 

Completion of the track prepares graduates to be competitive candidates for entry-level professional enterprise information systems positions in any organization, both within the private and public sectors, immediately upon graduation.

The network security track provides a comprehensive coverage of network analysis, design, implementation, maintenance and security. It equally emphasizes both the technical and managerial aspects of network management. It provides a strong foundation in networking suitable for general IS majors and IS majors who will work in the networking field. The track emphasizes hands-on experiences by including both physical labs and simulations.

Completion of the track prepares graduates to be competitive candidates for entry-level professional networking positions in any organization, both within the private and public sectors, immediately upon graduation. They also will be well-prepared to successfully complete networking certification exams, e.g. CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Testout Network Pro, and Testout Security Pro.The information systems major addresses information analysis, business system design and information systems management. The engineering track provides skills and training in various areas of mechanical and electrical engineering, including thermodynamics, materials, fluid mechanics, acoustics, digital and analog electronics, and computer architecture. Graduates are prepared for direct entry into the workforce or to pursue graduate programs in mechanical or electrical engineering.

The coastal engineering track prepares students to address the needs of coastal communities as related to sea-level rise, beach replenishment, dredging, sediment management, coastal structure analysis and design, wetlands and marsh stabilization and restoration, hydrology, ports, jetties, inland waterways, and energy matters.

For those who prefer a more traditional education in biology, the General Biology track prepares students to enter the modern workforce with a comprehensive overview of the field. Students take a look at biology at the molecular, cellular, organismic and population levels as they develop key knowledge and skills for a diverse number of jobs in the field. A flexible option, students in this track have the ability to customize their education to their personal interests and goals by choosing classes from diverse sub-disciplines across biology and related sciences.

Focused on life sciences and human biology, the Biomedical Science track prepares students with the skills necessary to succeed in medical and health-related careers. Students can customize their degree based on their interests as they prepare for jobs in medical, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, optometry, nursing, physical therapy or other health professions. Students who graduate from this track are competitive candidates for jobs in 2,700 different life science companies in Maryland.
