Master of Engineering in Biomedical Systems at University of Victoria

Our mission is to integrate science, engineering and medicine by bringing together many different disciplines in a unique collaboration to improve human health and enrich the educational experience of students. We educate our students in the fundamentals of science, engineering and medicine, and train them to carry their scientific expertise and engineering skills from the research labs to the actual world of medical technologies, and also to bring clinical insights from the patients to the research laboratories.

Graduate programs in biosystems engineering focus on applications of engineering in biological systems, including agricultural engineering, biomedical engineering, bioresource engineering and environmental engineering. The MEng degree is intended for individuals desiring an advanced degree with an emphasis on the practice of engineering.It is course-based and requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of coursework. It does not require the completion of thesis-oriented research.

Biomedical engineers conduct research and study the engineering aspects of biological systems to create new devices and procedures to improve health and quality of life. Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Track focuses on mechanics principles, along with basic chemistry, to specialize in:

• material interactions with biological structures
• drug-delivery systems
• tissue engineering constructs

Degree work prepares you to pursue the joint M.D./Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering between the College of Engineering and Northeast Ohio Medical University.
