The Department of Social Policy and Intervention offers an interdisciplinary DPhil in Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation and welcomes students from across the world. Research in Italian Studies MA allows you to study Italian language and culture while developing your research skills. Study alongside leading experts at the University of Warwick's School of Modern Languages and Cultures.

You can study for a PhD over the course of three years, or you can study for an MRes or an MPhil over the course of one year, at the end of which you would submit a dissertation.

If you have already gained a Masters qualification, you can apply for a PhD, which culminates in a thesis built on original research up to 100,000 words in length. In the course of your research and writing the thesis, you will gain a range of professional skills in research methods, communications, presentation, organisation and other academic specialisms.

The MRes (A&D), Master of Research in Art & Design is ideal for students who want to prepare for doctoral level research in Art & Design (PhD or Professional Doctorate) or to develop a range of advanced creative research skills to enhance their art or design practice or career, nationally and internationally.

The programme is suitable for students with little or no background experience of research from any field, as well as those with previous experience of professional and/or academic research in Art and Design or a related field.

Our MSc Historical Research (Economic and Social History) is designed specifically as training for the 1+3 funded PhD studentships in the ESRC Doctoral Training Programme. This specialist Master's degree will give you the advanced conceptual, theoretical and practical skills you need to undertake historical research, particularly statistical analysis, at an advanced level, professionally or for doctoral research.

The course will equip you with an awareness of contemporary historical practice and an understanding of the methodologies used in the analysis and interpretation of historical documents and other primary and secondary source material.

Research undertaken at Master's level explores aspects of knowledge at the forefront of an academic or professional discipline. You are expected to demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge, and to gain understanding of how the boundaries of knowledge are advanced through research. You will be able to deal with complex issues systematically and creatively.

The Manchester School of Art Research Centre offers research degrees in the practices, professions, histories and theories of art, design, media and architecture through the Postgraduate Arts & Humanities Centre (PAHC). These can be studied on a full and part-time basis at Masters and PhD level.

Since 1968, Manchester School of Art has pioneered practice-led research degrees alongside traditional approaches to research and today we provide a nationally and internationally recognised environment for postgraduate research. We have long-standing relationships with galleries, museums and the creative industries in the North West region and beyond.

Staff within the School are practicing professionals and researchers in their fields, either as creative artists and designers, or through theoretical approaches to their subject. Particular strengths are in Arts and Health, Asian Cultures, digital arts and contemporary ceramics and textile arts practice, but our researchers span the full reach of art, design, architecture and media research.
