Masters in Education Learning in Canada

The LATHE graduate certificate is designed for doctoral students who plan to pursue a career teaching adults. You’ll complete courses, workshops and guided experience. You’ll gain an understanding of current research, paradigms and approaches to teaching. Your training in LATHE will make you a more effective and employable instructor.

The LATHE program is usually taken in conjunction with your doctoral studies. Applicants must be UVic students.

The Human Development, Learning, and Culture (HDLC) program at UBC addresses the interface of research and practice in education, weaving together theoretical models and concepts in their application to real world educational issues. Investigations of learning and development, including the unique contributions of culture to these processes, are applied to a wide range of contexts including classroom, afterschool, work, and technological contexts. This work is interpreted through a variety of theoretical lenses (e.g., constructivist, cognitive, sociocultural, and social and emotional development). Students are encouraged to participate in research and teaching opportunities throughout their program.

The Department of Educational Policy Studies strives to develop critical and creative scholars who have a substantive understanding of the important systemic and contextual factors that bear upon Canadian and international education.

Graduate study in the above specializations is supported by a diverse group of full-time faculty, whose active research and publications (listed on the website at www.ualberta.ca/educational-policy-studies) are in the following general areas: aboriginal and indigenous perspectives in education; administration, leadership, and governance; careers and work; cultural, sociological, philosophical, historical, and political analysis of education; educational discourses and systems of thought; educational policy; educational reform; equity, diversity, and inclusivity in education; adult teaching and learning, professional development, and program evaluation; international and global education; and postsecondary education.
