The Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Applied Theology is designed to enable theological reflection upon experience in pastoral practice in the context of ministry in the Church. Urban informatics is the study of how rich behavioural data from cities and their citizens can be collected, analysed, understood, and communicated through computation. We seek to inform improvements that can increase the wellbeing of city residents, whether by government organisations or industries involved in providing services in cities. Our Urban Informatics MSc equips students with the technical, analytical, and communication skills required to conduct effective urban data analysis, with experience of detailed case study topics and the communication of results to effect change.

Understand the underlying factors driving human behaviour on Behavioural and Data Science MSc. Warwick's Psychology department offers you training in basic psychology, behavioural economics and state of the art methods in data science and analytics.

This course enables you to learn how anthropological ideas and approaches are vital for understanding the environmental, social and economic crises of the contemporary world. It teaches how to engage with local knowledge and community-based approaches, rather than rely on global blueprints for sustainable development.

The course is taught by an active, interdisciplinary team involved in world-class research on development issues. We offer comparative knowledge about achieving environmental and social sustainability through participatory approaches and active collaborations with projects for empowerment in the Global South. Geographical areas of expertise include Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, South Asia, South-East Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Melanesia. Staff also help students connect with Durham’s excellent research communities such as the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience, and the Durham Energy Institute.

The MSc is based around core modules focusing on the challenges of pro-poor transitions to sustainability, aided by culturally informed perspectives on new themes in development such as resilience, and energy justice. Options allow you to pursue subject interests with specialist guidance. The dissertation enables you to conduct independent research under the supervision of an expert, and become a master of your chosen topic.

Our MSc Nationalism and Ethnic Conflict considers how ethnic, national and religious identities intersect and how they cause conflict and violence within and between states.

In Western countries, many majority ethnic groups are bemoaning a loss of national identity and sovereignty, while smaller nations and ethnic-national groups press for devolution or independence at the expense of larger nation-state formations. Religiously inspired conflict, especially, but by no means only, in the Muslim world, is a further major source of global insecurity.

This course draws on research in comparative politics, history, sociology, cultural and genetic anthropology, political theory and international relations to offer comprehensive, balanced analyses of contemporary political controversies.

Our one-year masters will help you get started in the planning profession. The course examines the factors that shape cities and rural areas. We’ll show you how research is used in policy-making and evaluation. You’ll develop research and design skills, and specialise in an aspect of planning.

Our programme is designed to critically examine the theoretical and methodological issues surrounding the dynamics of peace and conflict in the contemporary world. You will have the opportunity to engage with the work of peace and conflict studies scholars, at both conceptual and empirical levels, and to draw on evidence from a range of recent armed conflicts.

Through the programme we also aim to address techniques in conflict resolution, such as mediation, in order to help you deepen your understanding, and enable you to develop skills in conflict analysis. We encourage you to use optional modules from Politics to support the core programme.

Having recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, this is one of the longest running degrees on gender and development.

You’ll gain a solid understanding of debates in feminist thinking, and link them to gendered policy and programming. You’ll develop in-depth knowledge for gendered analysis using an intersectional lens on issues such as:

• women’s economic and political empowerment
• political economy, environment and feminist mobilisation for social justice
• sexuality, masculinity and disability.

Our groundbreaking work challenges ideas about gender. We work with nuanced, fluid perspectives on gender and sex, and the ways they interact. You’ll gain the skills required to participate effectively in gender- and development-related research, policy-making and programme implementation.

This degree is based at the Institute of Development Studies. You’ll benefit from our international research faculty’s expertise and our working relationships with partner organisations around the world. Your course teachers are all active in the field, working on high-level policy-oriented programming and cutting-edge academic research.

Behavior Analysis and Interdisciplinary Autism Studies is a 41-credit, licensure-qualifying program leading to a Master of Science degree. This program offers students education and training in the field of behavior analysis, the history of autism spectrum disorders, characteristics of autism, family systems, educational strategies, and interdisciplinary approaches to providing services and supports. The program meets the educational content requirements for New York State Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) licensure as well as the coursework requirements for Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s (BACB) certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). As part of the coursework requirement, students will complete a supervised practicum to obtain the initial 150 hours of the required 1500 hours needed to qualify for the NY-LBA and the required 2000 hours needed to qualify for the BCBA.

The 30-credit minimum graduate program in Human Development (MS) is designed to provide advanced training, with special emphasis on child development and family relations. This program is designed for those interested in working in the human development field in such leadership positions as center director, director of services, program coordinator, case manager or project manager. Students take six required core classes, two electives, and a six-credit internship and/or thesis.

The Community Development and Planning certificate is designed to meet the needs of students desiring to work and influence rural and urban communities by integrating coursework in both planning and economic development. Specialized coursework in the certificate program focuses on issues related to planning and community development in rural and urban areas. The program culminates in a closely supervised internship experience (11 months) in the management of community development projects. In lieu of internship, students may customize their coursework with additional planning and/or geospatial technologies, all essential to the practice of community development.

The American Studies master's program combines coursework from American Studies and related departments such as art, education, English, history and criminal justice.

In this program, you'll choose courses from four focus areas. In addition, you'll personalize your curriculum even further by selecting one of two professional tracks to direct your career to public practice or teaching.

Graduates of the program who are already teachers can employ new skills in the classroom, while other graduates become prepared for working in museums and libraries, organizing community development and arts projects, or creating print and multimedia materials for a variety of industries.

The transdisciplinary field of Science and Technology Studies (STS) emerged in the 1970s out of growing concern about the social and political effects of scientific and technological developments. Engaging with the human dimensions of science and technology, STS uses methods from a variety of perspectives associated with the humanities and social sciences. Faculty in our MA program come from English, Geography, History, Philosophy, Sociology, the School of Journalism, and the Faculty of Education. Topics for STS study include: how laboratories work, how to understand the development of scientific practices and technological objects in social context, examination of the ethics of science and technology, analysis of expertise and authority of science in democracies, understanding relations between science and public policy, and exploring representations of science and technology. 

Occasionally a student wishes to pursue special interests or career goals that are not met by existing graduate programs. For this student, the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies offers the opportunity to create a unique master's degree program or one that is not otherwise substantially available in a current graduate program offered at this university.

This individualized master's degree is designed to be a highly challenging academic program for the self-motivated student who has a clear perception of objectives and a background which will allow advanced study in the disciplines combined in the program. The Interdisciplinary Studies M.A. is designed to accommodate unique student interests or to prepare students for fields which require programs not presently offered at the university. It is not a replacement of existing degree programs but an enrichment of the university's offerings. This program is designed by the student in consultation with the Dean of Graduate Studies and three faculty members. The three faculty members, who comprise the student's faculty committee, are selected from more than one academic discipline. Once the program is approved by the committee, it is then submitted to the University Curriculum Committee for its approval.

The Center for African Studies administers a two-year program of area studies courses and intensive African language instruction leading to a Master of Arts degree designed to give students an interdisciplinary perspective on the study of Africa. The program provides both language and area training for three constituencies of students: those seeking to match area expertise with professional training; those proceeding to disciplinary-based doctoral work; and those for whom the degree would stand on its own
