The Energy Engineering Technology major within the Electrical Engineering Technology Degree Program focuses elective classes on the efficient generation and use of energy in electrical systems. Smart Grid, power distribution, industrial codes and standards, efficient motor drives, and sustainable energy concepts are taught along with environmental policy issues.

The Energy Engineering Technology major is part of the Electrical Engineering Technology program.  The Electrical Engineering Technology program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org.

The Energy Engineering program is open only to students currently enrolled in the program.  Enrollment is closed to all new students and all transfer students.  Energy Engineering students meet with their Academic Advisor every semester to update their degree maps and identify all courses needed for graduation.  Indiana Tech will offer the required Energy Engineering courses for current students; in some cases, approved substitute courses will be offered to meet the Energy Engineering graduation requirements. 

Graduates of the energy engineering program will understand the fundamental science and math relevant to energy production, distribution, regulation and end use. They will be able to apply engineering concepts, calculations and computer models to solve problems and analyze designs in these areas. The graduates will participate in a multi-year energy project, in which they address engineering project issues, such as allocating resources, meeting milestones and solving specific engineering problems. Graduates will have basic knowledge in business and accounting to identify an appropriate balance of business and technical issues.

A combined degree in energy engineering offers you a unique opportunity to earn a graduate degree quickly. Imagine studying various energy resources and systems and taking such courses as energy and the environment, bio and renewable energy, hybrid electric vehicle propulsion and fuel cell science.

The energy engineering profession focuses on the production, distribution, and utilization of energy sources and the economic/environmental implications surrounding these resources. Ohio’s Energy Engineering curriculum is designed to provide graduates with a solid foundation in higher mathematics and basic sciences followed by extensive training in multidisciplinary energy topics including energy/material balances, transport phenomena, energy conversions, economics, sustainability, and policy. Additionally, the program integrates engineering experiences throughout the required coursework. These experiences require the application of engineering knowledge to develop and communicate solutions to energy-based problems.  In addition, student experiences are enhanced with colloquia which provide students the opportunity to connect their academic program with engineering competencies important in industry and life. The culminating experience is a senior capstone design project in which student teams apply their skills to develop a solution to a energy systems problem including an assessment of costs, safety, and societal impact.
