Courses cover the fundamentals of employment law, human resource functions such as staffing, compensation and performance appraisal, and labor relations. Students are prepared to enter the fields of human resource management, labor relations, and general management.

Biochemistry students study the chemistry of life, including the regulation of metabolism, the molecular basis of genetics, chemiluminescence, and the methods by which drugs affect organisms.

Students are prepared for laboratory and field work, research, teaching, medical school, veterinary school, allied health professions such as physical therapist or physician’s assistant, or graduate study.

If you aspire to help people overcome everyday challenges in communication and swallowing, the Saint Rose program in communication sciences and disorders (CSD) is your route to a rewarding career as a speech-language pathologist (SLP), also known as “speech therapy”.

SLPs work with clients of all types – from infants with feeding difficulties and students with dyslexia, to patients recovering from traumatic brain injury or stroke; from business executives managing stuttering issues to transgender individuals learning to modulate their tone and pitch.

In the bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, students develop a thorough grounding in the fundamentals — programming, database management, software engineering, networks. Then, go on to study topics that range from forensic computing, to mobile programming, and game design. At The College of Saint Rose, students are more than just a number — we know them individually. Class size is typically 20 students, held in computer labs, and students have one-on-one access to faculty. The program is flexible for both traditional and nontraditional students. Forensic psychology majors take both psychology and criminal justice courses, but they can opt for one of four concentrations that allow them to place greater emphasis on their interest area and set themselves up to be successful with whatever path they choose after graduation. A forensic psychology degree grounds you in psychological research, giving you the skills you need to enter the job market right after college if you choose to as a paralegal, police officer, corrections officer, juvenile justice advocate, and more.

Our faculty have broad experience in the field — allowing students to access the latest scientific developments along with their real-life applications. Our students have completed internships at The New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center, The Division of Criminal Justice Office of Forensics, and many local and regional laboratories.

Working in the criminal justice system requires knowledge from many disciplines, so the criminal justice, behavior and law program at The College of Saint Rose uses an interdisciplinary approach to prepare its students for careers in this challenging field.

The Special Education/Adolescence Education program provides pre-service teachers with integrated course content across the disciplines of special education, adolescence education, adolescent development, literacy, educational psychology, and instructional technology. 

The program prepares future educators to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of a diverse student population, collaborate with colleagues, and exhibit leadership in their professional endeavors. This program requires a minimum of 63 credits of study, includes a full semester of student-teaching, and involves the College-wide liberal education program with specific expanded course work to meet certification requirements.

The dual major in Special Education and Childhood Education is a four-year program of study and practice that leads to a Bachelor of Science in Special Education/Childhood Education and prepares students for teaching in special education settings, general education settings, and inclusive settings that serve children with a range of abilities and needs. Upon the successful completion of this program, the achievement of passing grades on examinations required by the New York State Education Department and fingerprint clearance, students are eligible for New York State initial teaching certification in both childhood (Grades 1-6) and childhood special education (Grades 1-6).

The communications curriculum encourages students to explore a breadth and depth of learning experiences that emphasize professional, academic, and personal development. Communications students are expected to fully engage in the theories and practices that prepare them for the communications field.

The Teacher Education department identifies the purposes of its education sequence for Early Childhood and Childhood Education students seeking initial certification at the undergraduate level as the development of education professionals who are reflective practitioners able to link content, theory, and practice and create effective learning environments for pupils with the full range of abilities and experiential backgrounds.

This major is informally known around campus as “Early SEED” which refers to Special and Elementary Education at the early level of education. Perhaps it also refers to the notion that good teachers plant the “seeds” of learning in today’s classroom. Either way, this program of study equally integrates the field of special education and general education in order to prepare pre-service teachers (often called “candidates”) with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are needed to help all children learn, especially those with unique learning needs.
