Building on a strong liberal arts foundation, Georgia College's undergraduate accounting program provides an intensive study of accounting theory and technical knowledge, while emphasizing the communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills necessary for success as an accounting professional.

Georgia College accounting majors who meet entrance requirements for the Master of Accountancy may commence graduate classes during the senior year of their undergraduate program. This provides a seamless option for you to transition into graduate school.

The Management major at Georgia College provides students with the knowledge and skills to begin their organizational management careers. Majoring in Management prepares students to effectively manage people and processes, the two central issues driving any organization. Regardless of the functional area in which students might begin their careers, within a relatively short period of time your primary responsibilities will be in managing those people and/or processes.

Management majors will take a variety of business course including Accounting, Business Communications and Principles of Marketing.

The Management Information Systems (MIS) program at Georgia College develops in-depth hands-on knowledge and skills in the application of information technology to problems and opportunities in business and society.

This program is particularly well suited for students who enjoy solving problems and life-long learning. Students get hands-on experience with technologies such as SAP, PowerBI, Tableau, PHP, SQL Server, and LabSim. Combining these technologies with theory in analysis, agile development, and business intelligence, students learn to apply technology to business problems.

A major in Marketing combines contemporary marketing concepts, a strong foundation in business fundamentals, and the strengths of the Georgia College liberal arts curriculum to prepare graduates for entry into a professional career. Our faculty are highly engaged with students and with client organizations so graduates benefit from practical experiences such as consulting projects and competitions. For non-Business majors a minor in Marketing enhances career readiness.

The Museum Studies concentration is a Bachelor of Arts degree program offered in the Department of Art. Museum Studies is an important emerging field in art. The museum studies program at GC is one of few undergraduate programs offered in the U.S.

Students will learn and understand the internal operations of a museum organization through the classes that are offered. The courses include Introduction to Museums Studies, introduces students to lectures, lab and gallery work, discussions, slide presentations and field trips to museums, where students learn about the history and functions of museums, their missions, diverse collections, exhibition programming, interaction with its audience and community and learn the organizational structure within a museum. Exhibition Design presents the study of museum and gallery design principles and exhibition construction techniques. Critical & Curatorial Theory & Development focuses on curatorial principles, how a curator researches and critically selects artists for exhibitions, develop exhibitions and collections and work in a museum environment. Museum Administration focuses on museum administration and its organizational structure.

All undergraduate biology majors will receive thorough instruction in the scientific process and interpretation of scientific data along with experimental design and experience with modern instrumentation. The Bachelor of Science in Biology will provide students with a sound understanding of cellular and molecular biology, organismal biology, evolution and ecology.

There are three broad subdivisions of biology that are invariably recognized: Cellular and Molecular Biology; Organismal Biology; and Evolution/Ecology. GC Biology graduates will have a knowledge and awareness of all three areas and specific knowledge regarding: the chemical composition of life, cell structure and function, molecular, Mendelian and population genetics, the diversity of life, the form and function of living systems, evolutionary theory and ecology.

When you begin the undergraduate Chemistry program, you’re beginning to build a solid background in science. Courses meet the guidelines of the American Chemistry Society and include inorganic chemistry, chemical analysis and instrumental methods of analysis, organic chemistry and physical chemistry.

The undergraduate Chemistry program is supported and funded by the Scholars program and aims to expose students to careers and chemistry and science education, as each scholar will be mentored by a faculty member. As a student in the Chemistry program, you will be prepared to enter and succeed in graduate programs in chemistry or professional programs including medical or dental school.

Our Computer Science (CS) faculty balance the academic with the practical, possessing terminal degrees plus added training in what is happening in industry right now. They are one of the most diverse groups of faculty in any department in any university. The computer science program is accredited by ABET.

In CS you develop – as an undergraduate – applications that are as current as today’s technology newswire, like iPhone and Android apps. As a part of the J. Whitney Bunting College of Business, you have access to career services and networking that will prepare you for the job you want.

Environmental sciences is a program of study designed for students to explore the interrelationships between human and natural systems. This is an interdisciplinary endeavor requiring insights from a variety of disciplines including biology, chemistry, geography, geology, the social sciences, political science and economics. Students completing this major are well prepared for employment in a variety of state and federal agencies, consulting firms or for admission into graduate school.

The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences prepares students to explore the interrelationships between human and natural systems and to think critically and analytically in order to solve the environmental problems facing our society. Graduates are prepared for pursuing careers and advanced degrees in the field of biology and environmental sciences.

Students in the Exercise Science program prepare for a career through "hands-on" learning experiences. There is an increasing need throughout the world for qualified exercise science professionals. Future career opportunities exist in the following settings or positions: corporate fitness programs, commercial fitness centers, cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation programs, strength and conditioning coordinator, personal training services and ergonomics.

Students must be first aid/CPR certified and are required to complete service learning projects within their discipline. The curriculum consists of courses from a variety of disciplines including public health, health sciences and behavioral sciences. Central to the program of study is applied service learning opportunities offered through a range of course projects and internships. Georgia College offers an undergraduate curriculum that emphasizes liberal arts and includes professional degree programs that provide students with a breadth and depth of preparation for their intended careers.

Students with a European Studies Concentration select three hours in the Fine Arts; a maximum of nine hours in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish or Philosophy; and a maximum of nine hours in History or Political Science.

The department offers a broad range of courses designed to prepare students for careers or advanced study for those pursuing degrees in mathematics, engineering or mathematics education. For students whose major incorporates a significant mathematical component, e.g., in the physical sciences, economics and education, the department offers a curriculum that meets the special needs of these groups. For all those studying mathematics as part of the general requirements of a broad based liberal arts education, the department offers courses that support the mission of the university and cultivate those skills.

These programs are designed to prepare you to enter a variety of professions requiring a substantial background in mathematics as well as further study at the graduate level in these disciplines. The faculty in the program encourages scholarly activity, which creates a stimulating environment for both students and faculty and enriches teaching and learning.

Students who seek certification to teach mathematics at the secondary level will pursue a baccalaureate degree in mathematics and then the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with a concentration in mathematics.

The Physics program at Georgia College helps students develop the knowledge and skills required to excel in a professional setting by providing a well-rounded, challenging and engaging curriculum in the physics.

The curriculum is designed to start from the very beginning of a student's understanding of physics. We do not assume that every student has the necessary math and science background to start immediately taking physics classes. Students must have a desire to understand and learn about the physical universe.

We have a novel physics program with a mission to demonstrate that physics is not for a select few, but can be enjoyed and understood by all that truly have an interest. We have a program that covers all the typical undergraduate courses generally found in physics programs such as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics and quantum theory.   

This new degree, which starts fall 2022, is a collaboration between the College of Business, Department of Information Systems and Computer Science and the College of Arts & Sciences, Department of Mathematics. The data science program provides essential knowledge in statistics, mathematics, and computer science building a solid foundation so graduates can apply their expertise, including skills in programming, algorithms, data mining, and machine learning, to interpret data providing meaningful information for industry and/or research. The rigorous training in this program prepares students to be data scientists in for-profit companies, government, and other organizations. Students will be ready for graduate study in data science or computer science as well. 

As a student in the undergraduate Criminal Justice program, you’ll gain a quality liberal arts education that builds on the content of the core curriculum. The focus of the program is on principles of democracy, rule of law, constitutionalism, civil liberties, equal rights and safeguarding of citizens against intimidation and oppression.

The Criminal Justice and Political Science programs are for people interested in careers in government administration and policymaking, criminal justice administration and law enforcement, foreign service, law and teaching. Many private sector employers find the knowledge base and analytical skills developed by Political Science and Criminal Justice majors to be valuable. The baccalaureate degrees will also prepare those students who wish to pursue subsequent graduate degrees in criminal justice, political science, public administration, public policy, urban planning and law.

Students with a Race and Social Justice  Concentration are required to take six hours in Sociology, at least three hours in the Humanities, at least three hours in the Social Sciences, at least three hours in courses related to Gender and at least three hours in History.  Additionally, the student’s program of study will include at least one course that addresses issues in each of the following areas: African Studies, African-American Studies, Latin American Studies and Women’s Studies.

A student can choose to pursue a Race, Ethnicity and Gender Studies concentration within the Liberal Studies major at any time in her/his college career, although students are advised to declare their major early in order to ensure a timely completion of their degree program.

Students primarily engaged in historical research and written arts scholarship should declare this concentration. The Art History concentration provides an opportunity within the liberal arts framework for students to develop an understanding of the history of western and world art from prehistory to postmodernism. A wide variety of courses are offered including traditional art history surveys, upper-level courses in topics ranging from Renaissance and Baroque, Women in Art, African Art, Asian Art, Writing About Art, Public Art and Media Culture, Art Criticism, Modern Art and Contemporary Art.

The Fine Art Studio concentration track provides an opportunity within the liberal arts framework for students to develop skills, experiential practice and multicultural understanding of studio arts with a fine arts focus. A wide variety of courses are offered including basic art skills such as Drawing and Two-Dimensional Design, traditional art history surveys and upper-level Studio Art courses in Ceramics, Graphic Design, Sculpture in Expanded Media, Painting, Photography and Printmaking.

The Graphic Design concentration provides a learning environment that nurtures creative thinking and skill development. The curriculum is carefully assembled to fulfill the growing interest in graphic design from students in the Department of Art and beyond. Courses are designed to help students acquire the applicable skills and knowledge of design principles to gain professional proficiency in every aspect of the graphic design profession. The concentration will also prepare students for further study at the graduate level and to meet the demands of the workforce.
